What are you currently reading thread?
« on: 09 July 2012, 11:31:22 PM »
Let's start this one rolling then...

I've just started reading John Sandford' Prey series featuring Lucas Davenport.  I'm on book #3 and enjoying it.

I've never heard of John Sandford's Prey.... what genre is it Dave?

Courtesy of a friend I am currently 65% of the way through Tad Wiliams's War of the Flowers, which is a fantasy fiction book where a mortal is translated to Faery, a land occupied by Fairies... but these aren't your pretty little sprites, some of them are decidedly evil!  It's definitely not a child's book.

I don't know him either.  However - the Prey books sound quite exciting!  Sort of ..... akin to how Salander worked to beat her enemy and THE enemy ....

Might  have to try him, let's see if we can get him on Kindle for no outlay LOL

I havent read a book for a couple months now since I last attacked that play by Tennessee Williams, A Streetcar named Desire, which lead me onto Gone With The Wind again, and then Scarlet. I found I was starting to think like Vivien Leigh spoke lol

John Sandford writes mainly Crime Fiction / Mystery.  Don't ask me how I discovered him..someone prolly recommended him, or I saw his books somewhere, I dunno :)  He's written 22 so far in the Prey series, so I figured if I liked it, there'd be plenty to keep me going for a while.
I'm a big fan of Mystery/Suspense or Crime Fiction and began reading this series to see what it was like.  Sandford' books so far are well written, and have kept me interested enough to want to read more.

Before this I read another new author to me. Steve Hamilton (Alex McKnight series) writes about a place called Paradise right at the top of Michigan.  I really enjoyed this series (8 Books).  The main protagonist Alex McKnight is unorthodox to say the least, but an interesting character.  It's set very close to the Canadian border, so they cross over that a fair bit during the stories.  You definitely need to read these in order as the characters build from book to book.  They're like a 'whodunnit' but with a difference & the setting is awesome.
McKnight tries his hand at being a P.I. but decides it's not for him (even though he still does it).  He's a bit of a loner and his friends are strong characters too.  It's worth reading for the dialogue between McKnight & the Chief of Police (who hates him).

If you like the first book, you'd prolly like the series.  It may not be everyone' cuppa tea, but I enjoyed them.

I finished the "Flower Wars" and have gone onto Tad Williams' "Shadowmarch Trilogy" which is actually 4 books (most curious that), not really got into it yet, but so far not finding it as fascinating as the Flower Wars book.

Surely someone else in the forum is reading something?

Boringly re-reading my copy of "Full Catastrophe Living" (self-help stuff) cause I've been having trouble with anxiety again.

That actually sounds like a jolly interesting book, if the rest of it lives up to the title and I guess some of it must be helpful as you are reading it again !

Ace good books though, I have to say.  I enjoyed them immensely  !  (esp when you already know the 'long, boring' version !)
