I read the WOT series by Robert Jordan and enjoyed it very much.
It was a sad thing that he died due to some rare blood disease.  He knew it was coming as he said on his website that if anything happened to him he'd left notes to finish the series with his wife and colleague Brandon Sanderson.
The last 2-3 books co-written were superb. The imagination for this story was amazing.  I think you can't help developing favorite characters, and look forward to when they reappear.
Each book is at least an 800 pager so if you're looking for something you can spend a great deal of time in, then this story is perfect.
I had to wait a couple years for the final books to be written, but they were well worth it.  I think it was January this year I got the very last book.
One of the best fantasy series ever written imo :)

I read 6 of the Thomas Covenant novels & really struggled. I couldn't empathise at all with the main character, he never stops whining about his leprosy. I just wanted to shake him.  >:( My BIL on the other hand absolutely loves them & says they're one of his favourite series of books, weird isn't it?

I see he's still writing the Thomas Covenant novels.  I read a few of them some time ago and I agree with you about the main character.  I'd totally forgotten about them until I saw your post.
I won't be going back to read any more of them as imo there's much better stuff out there.

I've just finished all the Charlaine Harris, Sookie Stackhouse novels & really enjoyed them. I'm waiting on the last one in the series (my library has it on order) also waiting for the latest Kim Harrison & the latest M L Hanover book in the Black Sun's Daughter series. In the meantime I'm reading Dean Koontz's Odd Apocalypse, I enjoyed all the other 'Odd Thomas' books but OH says this one isn't as good. As soon as I finish that I'm back to Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. I'm up to book 3. I have started watching Stephen King's new tv series Under The Dome & am wondering if I should get the book & read that as well.

Did you finish all the Kim Harrison's? I feel quite sad when I finish a good series of books, I really miss them until I find a good replacement.

Ooh nearly forgot, read the final book in the Nicole Peeler, Tempest series as well. She definitely tied up all the loose ends but I felt it was a bit rushed really.

I'm re-reading Daughter of the Empire by Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts.

It is the first part of a trilogy about a girl from a noble house who was about to talk vows in a temple and gets news that her father and brother the only other members of her family have been killed on another world. She then goes on to be head of her house and deals with the politics of her world as the wage war on another.

It is a bit like a more tame and less complex Game of Thrones. I try not to talk to much about Game of Thrones to people that haven't read them all as I forget sometimes what they will know and what I might spoil.
