Lois Greiman - Unzipped

This is the most entertaining book I have read in a long time. Her "thoughts to herself" had me laughing out loud so often my wife demanded I read some of the paragraphs out loud.
For those who've read the Stephanie Plum books, this is written in a similar vein although the characters are somewhat different.

It's refreshing to find an author like this. I'd recommend it highly if you want a read not too serious, and easy on the brain.

I'm looking forward to reading it Dave.

What I wonder... should we have a book club where we all read the same book and discuss it?  We could do one book a month or 6 weeks say?

Been meaning to read some Jo Nesbo for a long time and have started with his first book The Redbreast.
I thought it was going to be a war story at first, but now realise that that part set in the 1940s is relevant to the tale.
I'm about 2/3 of the way through and enjoying it.

A report of a rare and unusual gun - a type favoured by assassins - being smuggled into the country sparks Detective Harry Hole's interest. Then a former WW2 Nazi sympathizer is found with his throat cut. Next, Harry's former partner is murdered. Why had she been trying to reach Harry on the night she was killed?

As Harry's investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that the killer is hell-bent on serving his own justice. And while the link between the cases remains a mystery, one thing is certain: he must be stopped.

Hiya Dave

Actually "The Redbreast" isn't the first Harry Hole book.  It was just the first of the ones that were translated.  The very first has now been translated - it's called "The Bat" - I have read all of them except "Phantom".  At times I really want to give Harry Hole a darn good shake and tell him to grow up... but they are bl**dy good books!

I read "The Dead Tracks" by Tim Weaver which was very good.  The main character is David Raker, an ex-journalist turned into someone who looks for missing persons.
Quote
A serial killer more terrifying than you could ever imagine . . .
Seventeen-year-old Megan Carver was an unlikely runaway. A straight-A student from a happy home, she studied hard and rarely got into trouble. Six months on, she's never been found.  Missing persons investigator David Raker knows what it's like to grieve. He knows the shadowy world of the lost too. So, when he's hired by Megan's parents to find out what happened, he recognizes their pain - but knows that the darkest secrets can be buried deep. And Megan's secrets could cost him his life.
Because as Raker investigates her disappearance, he realizes everything is a lie. People close to her are dead. Others are too terrified to talk. And soon the conspiracy of silence leads Raker towards a forest on the edge of the city. A place with a horrifying history - which was once the hunting ground for a brutal, twisted serial killer. A place known as the Dead Tracks. . .
Very very enjoyable, a fast pace and keeps you on your toes with lots of twists before the end of the story.  I got it as a 99p daily kindle special off Amazon.  There are 3 out in the series, the Dead Tracks being the 2nd.  I'd really like to read Chasing the Dead which is the first, and Vanished which is the 3rd.

I just finished reading "Say you're sorry" by Michael Robotham which I think you have read Dave.  Fast paced and another one which keeps you on your toes, with twists in the tale right to the end.  Great stuff!

Then a girlfriend lent me "First Lady" by Michael Dobbs... whilst I enjoyed his "House of Cards" series I simply couldn't get into First Lady.  The "heroine" isn't particularly sympathetic and I couldn't in any way empathise with her, nor really believe in her.  The husband is a piece of non-interesting cardboard, so despite the fact my g/f loved it, I'm afraid I had to put it down on the premise that "life is too short to read stuff you have to force yourself to read".  She also lent me 3 Donna Leon ones about Inspector Brunetti so I have started on the earliest of those this morning.... he's usually entertaining and the backdrop of Venice is always interesting.

The Deadliest Bite by Jennifer Rardin, last one of a series of 8, got them all from the library!  ;D

Jaz Parks is a female CIA operative, sassy, cynical & prone to violence, who is paired with the CIA's top assassin, a 'dangerously attractive' vampire who is over 250 years old.

There's lots of action and the books have a lot of humour, shame the author died after writing them.

Some of the best authors do!  My all time favourite is Dorothy Dunnett who wrote the Lymond Series and the Niccolo series - some very brilliant stories that tracked politics throughout Europe in the 1500s.

Also look at Steig Larrsson?

She was only 45 when she committed suicide, so sad that someone with so much talent should feel there's no other choice  :(

Ouch!  What do you say to that?  Suicide is such a terrible thing.  I don't want to divert this thread about books though.

Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off just like that.... perhaps just that this is the lighthearted section of the forum.  Quite happy to discuss things in other sections.

I had to laugh today at the book I am reading.  Written in 1993 the detective (in Venice) walks into the murder victim's flat and sees his computer, rather than turning it on and asking his techie team to find out what's been going on, he turns it off and instead looks at the bookshelves and the inside of the fridge.
