Mmmmmm crispy cheese!

Have you ever tried that trick of putting some grated cheese on baking paper and microwaving it?

I never replaced my microwave when it died and haven't missed having one.

I bought some emmental cheese slices the other day so I have just tried grilling them on my Teflon sheet.

Grilled for a couple of minutes until golden brown, they are yummy. Might try sprinkling with chili flakes or black pepper next time.

Sound yummy Terry.  Our microwave is generally only used for defrosting and cooking vegetables.

Is there another kind of cheese I could substitute for the Gruyere?  For some reason I am unable to locate the right kind of cheese at the store where we shop.

Have you got any Swiss cheeses available ?

Gruyere is a firmish cheese but not as hard as a cheddar. It has a rubbery texture i.e. you can bend it a bit before it breaks and it has a slightly sweet nutty flavour.  Any similar cheese should be fine.

Here's a link which may give you some ideas Kathy http://cheese-shop.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/cheeses-you-can-use-to-replace-gruyere.html
otherwise I'd just use a full flavoured mature cheddar.
