tasty breakfast idea
« on: 19 June 2013, 10:19:52 AM »
Trying to find ways of getting more fibre into my diet, without bread. I tried a new breakfast today, tasted lovely and i even got that hint of breakfast cereal, porridge with it.

100g Greek yoghurt
1 dsp milled flaxseed
1tsp ground cinnamon
and half an apple chopped up, then all mixed up together.

well i have to say it wad so tasty.
ive worked it out to be:
cals- 261
protein-8.6g
carbs- 15.5g
fat- 17.1g
fibre- 5.5g

obviously you could use low fat Greek  yoghurt, and berries instead of apple.

I got it from Holland and barrats when i tried once before to up my fibre.

yeah, i reckon berries would be good too, ive just got a thing for crispy apple at the moment. Goes lovely with cinnamon too. It felt like a really luxurious breakfast, weird as that sounds, but i do miss that porridge texture.

Your breakfast idea sounds delicious.  I get weary of eating the same old thing every day.  I like a taste of apple and cinnamon too.

There may be days when fast food is your only option in the morning. Luckily, many restaurants now offer healthier choices. Here are some good options to look for:

  • Order a small latte made with skim milk and pick up a package of nuts and/or a small piece of fruit to go with it.
  • Oatmeal is a popular item on breakfast menus now. Order it and mix in some fresh or dried fruit and nuts.
    • Order a small fruit and yogurt parfait with a cup of coffee.
    • Try an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich or wrap. Add extra veggies if possible and skip the bacon and sausage.

This thread has been inactive for 2 years. I see you have posted similar replies on other food-related threads, none of which indicate you are aware this is actually a diabetes forum, and you haven't introduced yourself. I don't believe you are a genuine member and therefore I am banning you. Feel free to contact admin if I am mistaken.

Notwithstanding the fact that Heartpie has been banned, the above advice is misleading.  Firstly Oatmeal may well spike your BG very high.  Check with your meter before and at 1 and 2 hours after eating.  Some people can get away with it, most can't.  Both Yoghurt and fruit can also raise BGs steeply, particularly first thing in the morning when you are likely to be most insulin resistant.  Ditto the bread in the sandwich or wrap.  You would be better off eating the bacon and sausage, providing it's good quality sausage with a low carb content.
