High cholesterol and atherosclerotic plaque
« on: 29 November 2013, 04:58:49 PM »
I had a CT angiogram earlier this week (in prep for op) as they like to check for coronary atherosclerotic plaque which is what people are supposed to get when they have high cholesterol (like I do). I haven't got any, my coronary arteries are clear and clean, that despite my high cholesterol levels going sometimes up to 9.4, and eating a high saturated fat/very low carb diet ! I feel my diet is vindicated and I love my cholesterol :)
Anne

Atypical Type 2, thin, not insulin resistant, diagnosed March 2007. Very low carb (30 - 50g per day) Paleo diet and exercise - Prandin (Repaglinide) 0.5mg. Aortic Valve Replacement Jan 2014, Osteoporosis, Small airways disease, probable coeliac - Strontium Ranelate 2g/d, Omacor 2g/d, vitamin K2 300mcg/d, Aviticol (vit D3) 20,000 IU every week, Qvar 100 2/day.

Current HbA1c 33 Current total cholesterol 7, HDL 3.5, LDL 3.2, triglycerides 0.4

Yay!

Put that in your pipe and smoke it LOL

Brill Anne!  Just that collection of valves etc to sort out now .....

Apart from generally being cock-a-hoop that you have - despite any naysayers - actually been doing all the right tings for your particular situation, I should think it helps tremendously knowing that now, it's just the (errr) not so simple matter of getting the op out of the way (and will please the surgeon and the anaesthetist equally one would have thought!) and hopefully means a really excellent recovery from it.

Nice news!

Rather up and down I''m afraid,* but I've been kept busy. I feel so happy about the CT angiogram though, because although we all know in theory from doctors like Malcolm Kendrick, and the other cholesterol sceptics, that fats and cholesterol are fine, there's always that little niggling doubt, isn't there, since all the mainstream doctors believe that theory…nice to find out I can carry on eating the diet that is good for my diabetes and overall health, including vascular health.

* Going to add, this wasn't helped by one doctor telling me that my heart could just stop at any moment WHICH WASN'T TRUE but she said it to get me to agree to surgery sooner  :o

Thanks….yes, all the tests apart from the pre-op session are done now so I'm trying to focus on the recovery stage...

Ah, the pre-op assessment.

That's where they test your BG to see if you are diabetic isn't it ?  - clearly you won't be !

Anne,

that's music to my ears. Well done! You weren't too smug were you? Some doctors have very fragile egos.

I certainly felt very smug Graham, but I didn't make any pointed remarks to the doc even though my brain was shouting it. It's making me smile thinking about this ;)

And you're making me smile just by reading this. Thanks so much - the validation is very much appreciated by all of us LCHF people, I'm sure. As you say, there's always that niggle when lacking concrete proof.

I'll have to remember this next time some stupid doctor tries to get me to take statins!

I hope you're going to post the good news on Dr Kendrick's blog and/or those of other LCHF/Paleo afficionados?

How dare that Dr try to frighten you by saying things that are not true!  I think that's seriously unethical!

It has crossed my mind that the one person you can be suitably smug with is your brother!  As you say it is nice to put those niggling doubts to bed!
