About the DSF "Shop"
« on: 18 December 2013, 04:22:37 PM »
As many of you will know, the only funding we have received in the past to keep the forum going has come from members using the DSF "shop" which meant clicking through Spend and Raise thus generating a small commission on every online purchase.  Spend and Raise have now been taken over by "Easyfundraising.com" and our account with Spend and Raise will be closed on 31st January.

We have registered with Easyfundraising for an account which is now live.  To see how they work click here http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/how-it-works/.  In some ways it's better than Spend and Raise was because even if you have an account with a retailer .e.g. Amazon  or M&S you will get commission providing you've gone through Easyfundraising.

To register to be a supporter of DSF click here https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/support-a-good-cause/step-1/?char=116324.  During the registration process you will be asked if you would like to download a toolbar - generally speaking I avoid all toolbars, but in this case it's not intrusive i.e. it's not sitting there onscreen all the time, but if you click on an item you are interested in purchasing, it pops up reminding you to buy it through Easyfundraising and at the same time finds you the cheapest retailer!  So far as I know the toolbar isn't mandatory, but I quite like it.

If you have any queries please ask.

At the same time I'd like to take the opportunity to thank all those who have supported us through Spend and Raise over the past years - you've all been really great!
Patti

We discovered last night that the toolbar doesn't work on IE or on Opera, but is fine on Chrome and Firefox.

I find easyfunding difficult to use. I go to buy something, the banner tells me to donate with two easy clicks, the first click takes me away from the site I wanted to use and it's not clear what to do next. What I'd like is a message that says "You've donated" and to then be taken back to the website I wanted to buy from. That isn't happening. Is it me or is it them ? I have queried it with easyfunding but their answer didn't help.

I'll have a look at it tomorrow Tessa, thanks for letting us know.  To start with though, where are you when it comes up?  Are you generally shopping and their toolbar comes up, or are you clicking through from the top of the page here?

Thanks for replying, Patti - sorry I disappeared ! The yellow banner arrives when I go to a website to buy something - not going via this forum.

Tessa, now you mention it I think my toolbar isn't working since I upgraded Firefox.  I bought J two pairs of Jeans last week, clicking straight through from a M&S email I had saying they had a 20% off sale.

However I have little to go on as far as what's  ]happening with you.  What browser are you using?  Can you let me have the exact text of your query to them and their response to you please?  Thanks for not just giving up.

just bumping this because it has not been spoken about in a while -- perhaps there might be a few more members interested in using the easy fundraising when shopping.

It would be lovely if people were buying via the shop.  We are OK for funds at the moment, but it's good to have a buffer in case anything nasty happens.    I am just about to pay for the annual hosting which will drain the coffers a little bit.
