starting couch 2 5k tomorrow
« on: 14 June 2014, 07:29:34 PM »
So despite new meds and a diet overhaul my sugar is still high. I'm starting the C25K tomorrow. I will be starting with 30 minutes of combined walking and running. My question is how much will e0 mins exercise a day lower my sugars?

Thanks

Well there WILL be an answer, but nobody knows what it is until the person involved tries it.

It would be different for everybody.

If you find yourself in trouble with it, why not tell us what happened specifically and maybe someone can make helpful suggestions.

Best if luck with this, Petnik. My husband started the C25k last year and went from someone who had done zero exercise in years to running 8-10k three times a week, swimming every weekday morning and tennis at the weekend! It's a super programme  :)
Diagnosed T2 October 2013
Latest HbA1c- 5.8 (June 2015)

I did a truncated version of C25K earlier this year, in order to get back to exercise after injuries led to being scared to exercise which led to complete laziness etc.

It's a great course.
DO download the podcasts HERE
DO join the online support group HERE

I just did our local annual 10K yesterday (punching fists in the air smilie) - and that's after starting the Couchpotato to Runnerbean course in January  8)

As to how much it will lower your BGs - only your meter will tell you that as it will be different for each person, dependent on starting BMI etc, BUT the main thing is - it will help with your BGs and will make you feel better and will help in a lot of different ways.

So - good luck with the C25K, and if I can help in any way just PM me

 8) 8) 8)
ZigSig:-
T2 Since 22-May-2008 - HbA1c Dec 2015 - 38 or 5.6.  Chol - 5.8

Ramapril 10mg, Omeprazole 20mg
Exercise - am running on a fairly regular basis - knees don't fail me now :)  and Diet (am a lacto ova vegetarian and am trying to stay low GI/GL)     Still on the Road To Find Out

My big concern now is keeping it up (may have phrased that better - onslaught of ED jokes), but from my records I know that I only ran once after the 10K in 2012 - admittedly I had an injured knee and started physio about then - and was told - no running, and in 2011 I only ran twice after the 10K. It's as if the 10K was a goal, and once achieved, my motivation vanished along with my physical activity!!

This time though I have a local Parkrun every Saturday which leaves me feeling a part of a community and is a good habit to have every week as the rest of the Couchpotatoes to Runnerbeans (Council funded Couch to 5K initiative) do the Parkrun 5K every week now and not doing it would make me feel as if I was letting them down. When I ran on my own it was all to easy to find reasons for not running - Devil on my shoulder!

That sounds like a really good 'gang' to be part of Ziggy.

It's always better fun running in company.  Even if neither of you have the breath to actually talk !

Running was fantastic for weight loss and also emotional well being for me a few years back. I started off being able to job for 2 minutes at a time and within 3 months I was joining in 5k races (always last though!) and doing 7k myself.  I'd suggest taking is slowly as the program suggests, as I did too much too soon and then injured myself and couldn't run for years.

Good luck, have you a park run to aim for near you?
