Hi Vinutha
to start with is it possible for you to reduce the amount of  starchy carbohydrate that you eat in a day.
eating a smaller portion of rice for example and eating more vegetables would be a good start.

it would help us to know what sort of food makes up your daily diet -- how often you eat ?

do you weigh your food at all ??

Hi Vinutha
Quote
I have Type1 diabetes. I am in an Insulin Novomix 30 and GP2 and GP3 and Europa 2mg.

I haven't heard of those drugs with the exception of Novomix 30.  All I can find googling for GP2 and GP3 is grand prix racing.  I think Europa might be the manufacturer of whatever 2mg pill you are taking.  Perhaps you can look on the packaging and see if there are alternate names for these drugs?

Since you are on Novomix 30 there's little you can do to tweak it to give you better numbers.  As Paul says, restricting carbs in your diet may help, but be careful because with Novomix it is easy to go hypo if you don't eat enough carbs.  Are other insulin regimes available where you live?  Such as long acting basal insulins like Lantus or Levemir and fast acting ones such as Apidra, Novorapid or Humalog?  It is worth asking your doctor about these alternative insulins even though it's more injections a day it's worth it for better control.

Yes, we know.  However if you genuinely do want to control your BG and get pregnant you have to be a bit more forthcoming if you want help.  Or are you just trying to find out how many posts you need to make before you can post a link?

Hi Vinuthamb

I have looked at all the foods you have listed you are eating and in this country we would try to stop eating as much of the dosa or idli as they contain a lot of carbohydrate
also the milk is quite high as well and can definitely affect your blood sugar. Is there a drink alternative to the milk ??

is it possible to eat 1 dosa with double the amount of vegetables ?-- are you able to include eggs in your diet ?-- they are no carbohydrate -- only protein.

i realise you do not weigh very much so you do not want to lose any weight -
please do keep talking to us -- we want to help.

Hi Vinutha - apologies for doubting you.  We get many spammers from India and your brief comments made me suspicious.

What we mean when we say "diet" is just what you eat in a normal day.  We do not mean "a weightloss diet" which some people take it to mean.

The foods which increase blood glucose are carbohydrates i.e. flour (of any kind), rice, pasta, bread, baked goods, potatoes etc.  So lowering those elements of your diet and increasing vegetables and fat may benefit you a lot.

The thing is that you are on Novomix (and I would still like to know what the other drugs are) which is difficult because you cannot alter doses at will.  If you can persuade your doctor to prescribe you Lantus (or Levemir) which I have researched and found available in India, plus a rapid acting insulin that you inject before each meal, then it is easier to control diabetes.

In England we count the carbohydrate amount of our meals and then we inject insulin to counter that.  Your dose of insulin is precisely measured to address the carbs you eat.  Unfortunately you can't do that on Novomix so it would be good if you could get your Doctor to prescribe a more modern insulin regime for you.

Hi Vinutha
thank you for providing more information. yes i could tell from your diet you are vegetarian -- ok -- eggs are a good source of protein so you should include them. Also cheese is a good choice. I think your doctor wishes you to only eat the white because of the fat in the yolk. for a diabetic the fat is not bad as it helps slow rise in blood sugar. whole eggs will be fine to eat.

what do vegetarians eat for protein in india ?? is Tofu available ?

in the UK I would drink tea as an alternative to milk -- but the tea would be black ( with no milk or sugar ). i looked up the ingredients in the dosa and all the beans and rice have about 15-20 grams of carbohydrate in 100 grams weight. this is fairly high.

are you able to get soya beans to use as a substitute to grind up for the dosa ? they only contain 5 grams carb per 100 grams weight.

you have done very well ( excellent in fact )in reducing your HbA1c in such a short time -

start by showing to your general doctor but go to the endocrinologist if the general docter doesn't help.
are you able to get more modern insulins as Patti asked you ??

I feel I should explain to you that the trouble is, we can usually suggest all sorts of things that are available here in the UK shops, but none of the rest of us live in southern India so we don't know what's available and 'normal' where you live.  So our knowledge is going to be limited.

The main thing is that carbohydrate, as has been said already, should be reduced.  You really need to see if you can find out either from someone in the health profession or from the internet or books, the carbohydrate value of different things you like eating or could eat but haven't tried.

Because we don't know what the other drugs are that you list and we don't know for what conditions they are taken, so it's very difficult for us to be as helpful as we usually are.  For instance, your Doctor may have said not to eat egg yolk because it shouldn't be eaten with one of the other drugs and could cause problems - we don't know.  So we can't tell you that you can eat them.

very good point Sedge -- i should not have said they are fine to eat
Vinutha - check with your doctor first if you are allowed to eat the whole egg
