No, Sedge, 89p for the basis for two slices of bread (if that's what you're talking about, because I haven't clicked the link) is extremely expensive. And I don't have cheese, which is also expensive, unless it's on the reduced counter (which it rarely is these days) or eggs, unless I know exactly what I'm going to do with them. In which case they're not available to use for anything else.
Type 2 (diagnosed Summer 2006) - HbA1c (Sept '09) 6.9, (Mar '10) 6.4, (Oct '10) 6.7, (May '11) 7.3, (Aug '11) 6.5, (Nov '11) 48 (6.5), (Nov '12) 46 (6.4), (May '13) 50 (6.7), (Nov '13) 45 (6.3), (May '14) 45 (6.3), (Dec '14) 45 (6.3)
Metformin 1000mg Mycophenolate mofetil 1000mg Prednisolone 5mg Ramipril 5mg Citalopram 20mg Gliclazide 40mg Doxazosin 1mg

Hi Steven

I see what you're saying 89p for a cauli plus the cost of an egg and cheese to make 2 slices of bread would indeed be expensive.  Although the video doesn't give amounts, the amount of cauli they used judged by the size of the person's hands didn't look like a whole cauli to me, more like about 200g max?  I concur that eggs can be expensive these days, though I usually get mine in Lidl or Aldi abut £1 for 10 and you can make a good nutritious meal out of a couple of eggs.  Aldi also do 15 for £1.19 & think Lidl do a similar deal.

Very interesting thread!

I know I have not only spent far too much money on foods be they low carb, or otherwise for this family of 3 adults and 1 toddler, but have wasted tons too!

Am ashamed to admit it but I have decided to buy and eat low carb foods, gone and bought it in only to have foods like the rasberries. and strawberries go off on me because I " didn't fancy them"  too many times...

I need to get back on track and plan and buy accordingly

That happens to me quite a bit, Poppet. I figure it's part of eating more fresh, "real" foods that sometimes they go off before you get to them! Eventually I've gotten a better idea of what I'm going to like and want to eat - not buying things just because they're low carb or "good for me" or "I should have some of this". And not buying the things I know I won't be able to resist eating once I get home!

Plus, this may not work for everyone, but I live 15 minutes' walk from the store so I try to go every 2-3 days and only buy for the next few days at a time rather than a whole week's worth. Saves me having to predict on Sunday what I'm going to want on Friday and end up being wrong and not finishing any of it! I try to always have one savory snack and one sweet snack per day planned for in my grocery list but otherwise I don't "stock up" on anything; I only buy what I need to make my planned meals and snacks for the next couple of days. This is probably easier without kids in the house though!

I wish I could do that Nyt.

We have just entertained 2 other couples and eaten in the garden.

I did this complicated salad that had about 100 ingredients.  I came in later and J said "what is this?" and it turned out to be some spiced onions that were one of the main ingredients!  I had totally forgotten to incorporate them!  No matter... peeps loved the charred Aubergine salad with coconut and pomegranate.

No idea what to do with the onions now!

Sounds like it would go great with some kind of meat dish - ooh what about mixing it with ground beef to make hamburger patties?

I think the hamburger suggestion is a good one Nyt.  Meant to go get some minced beef today but I am feeling too lazy.

Well it's Sunday after all, if you can't be lazy on the weekend, when can you be? :)
