My heels underneath have become bruised feeling over the last week or so and as I really need to keep walking wonder if anyone has any suggestions other than sorbothane insoles as they overfill boot space and feel a bit uncomfy. Have looked for padded socks but none seem really padded so what now?
Do you see a podiatrist? This gets a little long. I hope my story helps a little with ideas.
After my first overseas trip (2003) my heels were very sore from all the extra walking I did. I realised the boots I wore on that trip were part of the problem. Initially I used the computer system at an athlete's footwear shop to analyse my gait, pronation etc and bought some wider (EE), softer New Balance shoes.
They were good for a while but a few years later I developed blisters on my outer toes on another trip (2008) with lots of walking. I fixed that with even wider EEEE and my first visit to my podiatrist who prescribed some commercial slip-in orthotics. They worked well until my next trip (2010) when I developed Plantar's Fasciitis in my left foot. Ouch. Not something I recommend to anyone.
My podiatrist took casts of both feet and had custom orthotics made. Over the next six months, slowly but surely, the Plantar's Fasciitis disappeared and has never returned.
I see my podiatrist regularly these days. Of course, the real cause was my trips - but stopping those is not an option
