here is my update on attending the first INPUT event at manchester today.

It seemed very well attended - I counted about 60 people booked in as attendees , along with 5 people representing INPUT.
DUK and JDRF , DWED omnipod , medtronic, funky pumpers, cellnovo had reps there too.

the day was started with a quick 10 minute intro and there were loads of post it note for attendees to write down any topics they wished to cover in informal small group talking sessions
there were 2 session in the morning and then a long lunch ( excellent buffet with good low carb offerings as well as the usual sandwiches and oriental and indian meat skewers etc and lots of fresh fruit -- after the lunch was an opportunity to meet new friends or speak to the reps.

2 more talking sessions followed in the afternoon

the talking groups included pumps , technology , carers , research , psychological issues , diet and exercise
you could move round to different groups at each session or stick with 1 or 2 as you wished.

I met jacq allen ( she is lovely)

i learned there is a pump users support group based in Lancaster if anybody wants contact detail let me know.

the leader on the day took a vote as to whether there would be interest in doing the event next year which got a resounding YES

Fab day from my point of view.

hi sedge -- not really ( sorry)

I suppose looking at the different pump mfg's was not a priority for me.
and in all honesty the day seemed to whizz by in no time flat.

I was trying to network with people really.

Thanks for the report Paul, most interesting.  Which groups did you sit in on?  By that I mean which topics?

Was Lesley Jordan there?  I met her at Exeter and we are friends on FB.  Remind me who Jacqui Allen is.

Morning Patti  :)

For me the event was about looking at the psychological issues we face as being long tern chronic illness sufferers and my post it notes were about that.

I sat in on 1 pump session , a carer session and a psychological support  session , and the eating disorders session.

I can't say I am absolutely interested in the technological side of things so the pump groups did not really interest me.
I spoke to one nice lady before the sessions started -- she was on MDI and hoping to get a lot more insight and understanding of pumping.
spoke to her again at lunch and she was a bit disappointed in that the 2 sessions on pumping had seemed to be people already on pumps and not addressing the build up to getting a pump.

I didn't meet her -- is she an organiser for INPUT ?

Ah yes, DWED, she was, briefly, a member here.

The other Jackie (surname) Jacombs from CWD, she has twins, one is T1 the other not.  They must be about Uni age by now.

Aaaah - a Jack and a Jacqu which might explain why I got it wrong if I hadn't already realised it was just old age! LOL

Paul did you suggest to your lady that she comes onto the forum and asks, cos I wouldn't think it was INPUT's brief to supply general pumping info, is it?

And I'm intrigued about there being psych issues with pumping.  I know a pump can help if you have gastroparesis cos of the delayed stomach emptying - but what other eating disorders can diabetes cause then?  Or do you mean these were sessions that weren't actually part of their brief but they just added in to provide something different?

hi sedge -- completely impossible to answer your very well put question-- the organisers asked all participating members to jot down topic ideas on post it notes in the intro section

they spent about 10 minutes groupig them as best they could into hopefully similar discussion groups
I fear some potential topics will have been completely overlooked if only 1 person wrote a post it note suggestion that seemed random from the majority ( if that makes sense )

( LOL -- i knew i was on a winner with psych issues -- major part of our long term existence ))
