I haven't weighed myself for 6 months +, the scales and I are no longer on speaking terms, I accused the scales of being a liar and it turned round without even a minutes hesitation and told me the same lie again. Huff mode ensued!
I'm also thinking of skipping my 6 month diabetes MOT too.
My report card says - "over the past 6 months Ziggy could have done a whole lot better!"

Just got home from 3 weeks' holiday in Corfu last night.  Am quite relieved that I only put 2.5 lbs on whilst I was away, because I've been drinking beer (not gallons, but I normally stay away from it) and eating tons of bread, plus the Greeks are mad about potatoes.  You often get roast potatoes and chips on the same plate.

Off out today as it's Mazey day here in Penzance (http://www.golowanfestival.org) so will be joining in the fun and eating out.  No food in the house until I do a shop anyway, so will start diet properly on Monday.  Have to, I have to fit in a dress for a wedding on 6 August.

Only 2.5 pounds sounds alright patti, that could just even be normal water variation. I'm worried about putting weight on on my holiday as we'll be taking most of the food with us in the car which means it'll end up meanin I mostly eat carbs and less veg or protein. I do usually lose weight on holiday though as there's a lot more moving about than my usual 9-5 desk job.

I hope the activity helps Lucy.

When we did our tour of Granada, Seville and Malaga last year I ate and drank like a pig, but didn't put an ounce on because we did so much walking (and a lot of it up and down hills in Granada).  This time, apart from the two days we were in Corfu town, I was mostly sitting in the sun or eating or drinking.  Too hot for a lot of exercise

I had "lost" 3kg when I was at the clinic to when I was at my docs, but I guess that can just be a discrepancy between different scales.  I can't exercise with these huge lumps in my abdomen I get dizzy if I turn suddenly and they hurt.
T2 and PCOS. Just had large serous adenofibroma removed with ovary and fallopian tube. Bp is now normal!

I'm not surprised you get pain TBH - when I was quite young, in my teens, the unmarried approx. 30 yo daughter of a family who attended the same church, who had been putting on weight round her tum, and everyone thought it was early 'middle aged spread' cos we'd all noticed it - was admitted to hospital.  She was actually a medical secretary and her boss asked her to hand deliver something to the Gynae man, so off she toddled to see him with it.  They are chatting as their paths don't cross regularly,  and he happens to enquire whether she 'needs' to see him professionally, as a sort of professional joke between colleagues.  She actually tells him she has had a bit of weirdness with her monthlies, but perhaps it's being her age and not in a relationship and just normal and that was that.  Next day her boss tells her she has an appointment with Mr X at 10 o'clock.  What?  So she goes, and is informed that he thinks she needs to be examined cos he'd noticed she'd put on weight, so had cross examined her boss about that, and the long and short of that discussion and examination was most likely to be an ovarian cyst.  Operation took place shortly - and when she awoke she was informed by the Gynae that whilst she was fast asleep, she'd had 'a Caesarian' and been delivered of a 'beautiful, bouncing, 8 pounds' ovarian cyst ! - so don't be surprised if they are sizeable.  Hopefully not THAT heavy, but who knows?

Blimey Sedge.... what a tale!

Back on topic... Did a grocery shop today since we've just got back from hols and whilst in Tesco I bought a box of their ultra slim shakes with the intention of kick starting the diet by having one of these instead of lunch (hardly ever eat brekkie) and having a salad in the evenings.  Paul mentioned them earlier in this thread.  However, when I got home and read the instructions I realised that I should make them up with skimmed milk, which we don't have as we only buy full fat milk.  From a carb POV there's little or no difference in carb count between whole milk and skimmed milk and as I intend carb counting rather than calorie counting does anyone think it will make any difference if I use full fat milk?

I wouldn't have thought so, but it may alter the taste slightly - I mean if you take a swig of full fat and then one of skimmed, the latter tastes like water!  Just try it and if you dona like it  - buy some skimmed  and keep it for a few days of shakes.

Try it and if you'd prefer less fat milk then maybe you could use mostly full fat milk and some water to top up? I think skimmed milk is just white water anyway.

only to the calories Patti-- I used them as an "alternative" newcastle aiming for 800 cals per day
just measure the difference between cals in skimmed and whole and if you are happy -- carry on !!

How long did you do Newcastle for and did it work for you? I.e. How much did you lose on it?

My intention was not to count calories, but to count carbs.  Last night I had a delicious low carb dinner.  Roast chicken (I was extravagant and got a ready prepared "butter and herb basted roast in the bag" one from Tesco).  I used a tub of courgette spaghetti sautéed in some of the chicken juices and added chopped mint and chives from the garden, I roasted some baby plum tomatoes with some asparagus spears then added a splash of balsamic and some fresh basil leaves.  Lovely!

I expect it's just water, but today am back to my pre-holiday weight.

I only did "modified newcastle" for 4 weeks and lost 11 lbs
it is difficult to say that it works though because i was starving about 150% of the time .

also it is the very first time I have ever dieted in my entire life and I had quite a few hypos over the 4 weeks too.

Try making them up with unsweetened almond milk.  It is only 0.1g per 100 mil so far less carbs than cows milk.  It doesn't taste quite the same though and I have often added some coffee granules or cocoa powder to give extra flavour if using a vanilla shake.  If I have a chocolate shake, I just add some cocoa powder.  You will need to experiment, Patti.

Good luck with your weight loss, Patti.  I put on 5 lbs over the winter but have managed to shift 7 lbs since returning to a stricter low carb high fat diet.  I am 2 lbs lighter now than I was when we had the weight loss table on here.  My weight fluctuates a lot though as my ankles swell.
