I'm now at - 3 stone lost. I took some swimsuit pictures yesterday for personal reference for later on as to be honest although I'm wearing clothes that haven't fit me before and the scales think I've lost weight I can't actually see any difference in the mirror. So thought the pictures may help in future. Sadly didn't do any start ones to compare to now.

I celebrated by buying a new ironing board. Since I've shrunk into a load of shirts I have had for ages I need to do a lot more ironing than the previous only occasional shirt ironing and so an ironing board was required. Also bought new work trousers as there had been some close calls with gravity vs trousers lately.

Reminds me of when I was losing weight fast before Dx we had gone to another pool to try it out & it had a flight of steps leading in so I struggled up it on my walking stick, stepped through the door and my trackie bottoms hit the floor. Lucky I was wearing my swimsuit underneath, not so lucky there was around 30 people there waiting for an exercise class to start. Several of them kindly ran over & helped me hoick em up again but OH who was over at the reception paying for our swim just looked round, sighed & said dropping your trousers again? I'd forgotten I nearly lost them in the pub on our hols a few months earlier.  ::)  Should've realised that kind of rapid weight loss wasn't right, just thought that walking all those widths in the pool was fantastic for losing weight, was recommending it to all & sundry, thought about writing a diet book & getting rich but on reflection, recommending having undiagnosed D as a weight loss plan probably wouldn't sell very well.  :P

It's rather unusual for a T2 to lose weight like that Q.   Most tend to gain.  It's more typical for a T1.  I do wonder quite often if you are LADA or T1.5

Me too, if I ever manage to get to a D clinic & if they'll agree to do the tests, maybe I'll find out  :-\  On the other hand they'll probably just give me a hard time for refusing oral drugs/statins and not even consider the tests.  :(

Just remembered, the muscle loss at that time was so drastic I tried to lift down my old Kenwood Chef (you remember the big old heavy ones that made the best ever cakes, weighed a ton) from the top of the kitchen cupboard where it lives and almost dropped it on my head. I'd always been very strong, with the horses etc so quite a shock to find all my muscles had vanished, seemingly overnight.

That's what happened to me.  I said to a friend, "it looks like something has sucked all the muscle out of me".

Here's a couple of pics the month before I was diagnosed.  I was about 8st 7 then.  Not long before I had been 9.5 stone and a month later when I was diagnosed I was under 8stone.

I had put on 5.5 stone after becoming wheelchair bound and only years later when I discovered I could walk in the pool had I lost around 3.5 stone of it, gradually, over several years. In the couple of months before Dx I lost 1.5 stone. It was great, every time I upped the duration of my 'walking' by 5 minutes I lost pounds, it seemed to be melting off. I really did think I had found the holy grail until I realised I had lost all my muscles. I tested my blood with my type 2 Dad's meter and it said 19.5. Bit of a shock so made an appt with the local GP surgery (1st appt with any GP for 12 years) & told them I thought I had D, 1 x A1c later & my life changed forever. After initially dropping my BGs I put back 1.5 stone over about a year & it's held steady with my LCHF diet till last year when I couldn't exercise for over 12 months and put on about a stone. Don't know if I am LADA or 1.5 but am hoping to lessen the IR once I can shift that latest weight gain.

Sorry folks  ;) :threadhijack:  a bit anyway.  I was just trying to demonstrate the difference between healthy weight loss and the muscle wasting kind clearly seen in illness.  I do think QL demonstrates the symptoms of T1.5 where oral meds/diet work for some years, but of course it will depend whether the clinic she is sent to see that or just assume she is T2.

The dietitian is to blame for my weight gain with her silly advice to base my meals around 60% carbs.

Interestingly, though I don't seem to be losing, I have stuck to under 60g carb since return from holiday (mostly 50g) and have noticed that despite being quite ill with sore throat, stuffed up ears, swollen glands and irritating cough my BGs have been incredibly well behaved.  Except for yesterday when I forgot I was diabetic and did no insulin for the 25g shake and went up to 14.4!  The insulin users might be interested in the fact that I have also noticed how little insulin I have been using.  Usually I fill my pump with 240u insulin (before priming which usually takes a fair bit to get all the bubbles out) for 6 days and when I change it I have about 30u left.  This week after 6 days I had over 100u left, so I just changed the cannula.  Now after 9 days I still have 56u left.  So averaging around 22u per day inc basal which is 12.2u.

I really OUGHT to be losing!

Lucy, love your ironing board "celebration"!!!
