We also noticed that the Lidl Turkish yoghurt hasn't been in the shelves recently an the Greek stuff doesn't seem as thick as it used to.

My second batch of homemade yogurt turned out much better than the first.  I added some powdered milk (whole fat) per manufacture's instructions and the end product was much like Fage Total which is sold in the US as whole milk Greek yogurt.

I have never been 100% satisfied that we only get the cow's milk Fage here - but I bet they'd sell a lot less of the sheeps milk in the UK, people would be horrifies and not try it.

Yukk - it's too sharp!  That's why the Greeks eat it with honey you plonker.  LOL

Glad your last batch was a success!

You used to be able to get the sheep's milk Total over here.  I noticed that it gradually disappeared some years ago.  We used to love it.

Out of curiosity, do the stores in the UK sell whole milk yogurt or is it mostly the "fat-free" and "low-fat" varieties that are offered?  Where I live in the US, there are maybe one or two companies that even offer whole milk yogurt and this is among a whole long section in the store.  I can remember when yogurt first appeared on our shelves, it was all whole milk yogurt.  That kind of yogurt disappeared and now everything is fat-free or low-fat.  It is a bit disappointing.  Just my own opinion, but I like the taste of whole milk the best.

Most supermarkets have both Kathy same as milk - full fat, semi skimmed or skimmed (and various other types) - so you take your choice and that's that - they don't mind what sort you have, as long as you pay for all of it!
