    • Every day ups and downs - a diabetes blog
I saw this the other day on Twitter and I really don't know what to make of it...

http://www.healthline.com/diabetesmine/newsflash-roche-discontinues-insulin-pumps

It seems that Roche have (for now) decided to stop acquiring new insulin pump users in the US and will only be supporting existing users (presumably until their pumps run out of warranty. So it seems that the Insight will never make the trip over the pond.

I have no idea whether it is wrangles with the FDA, a stranglehold on the market by Medtronic/Omnipod/T-slim etc or whether they are just wanting to concentrate on other devices/lines for the time being.

Seems an odd move though!

Just - Good God! - cos I don't actually know what else to say.

I suppose we all have to 'watch this space' - and I'll have to watch it like a hawk of course.

How surprising!  Perhaps the reputation of the insight has damaged their business?

I know some of our members are perfectly happy with it, but there are a lot of moans on the FB Accu-chek group.

knowing the little bit I do about America -- I would suggest it is pretty much an economic decision based on recent sales
competition is everything in the USA ( not necessarily the end user )

Well dunno if they've got US companies Paul - but bearing in mind there ARE US manufacturers of other pumps and one would think he'd be applying his hefty Border Taxes to all imports into Trumpton - in which case it's unlikely that Trumpton insurers would be willing to pay the extra for them.

At present Medtronics is trying to gain even more of the pump market than it already holds.  People on Medicare have been told that when their present pump warranty expires, they will be forced into getting a Medtronic pump. The reason:  Medtronic has made a "deal" with Medicare to cover all patients on Medicare.  Those of us who have a pump from another company are NOT pleased.  Diabetes is not a choice, but the pump one uses to treat that diabetes should be (in my opinion).

To complicate things further Medicare does not presently cover any CGM systems and Medtronic pumps have the CGM integrated into their more recent pumps.  Their CGM systems stinks as far as accuracy compared to the Dexcom (again in my opinion).  It is all about money over here and forget about the patient.  :banghead:

Isn't the Trump trying to do away with Medicare?  Along with Obamacare?

I dunno Patti - I wouldn't put it past the Dear Man though from everything we hear about him!

Trouble is - it isn't just the 'Meeja' slagging him off - when they televise him delivering speeches and he actually comes out with such outrageous stuff - nobody needs to invent, or even embroider it, to get a shocking headline!

Unless of course it's a conspiracy between every single Radio, TV station, paper and any other possible 'News' medium - and someone has spent hours doing the sound equivalent of 'photoshopping' on them!

The writers of South Park (one of those shows that deliberately seeks to be over the top and offensive as a form of satire) have come out and said that they're going to have to stop parodying him in their show because basically it's too hard for them to come up with any material that's more over the top than he already is!

Edit: removed a bit that was getting too political.

My husband and I just look at each other in utter shock after listening to the evening news on television.  We can't believe some of the shocking things he says.

He's mad, but so was Hitler, which is rather frightening.  I am simply gobsmacked that he tweets... surely a head of state should be above that?

I wonder why they allow him to tweet, surely it's political suicide.

He's recently read Lewis Carroll and decided to style himself to resemble the Red Queen - 'Off with their heads!' style - if anyone disagrees with his diktats.

He only wants Yes Men.  Blooming good job not everyone is one.
