ROTFL!

Don't worry about  :threadhijack: , I am pretty laid back and the original post had been responded to as much as it needed to be.

and sorry for continuing to sort of hijack the thread.......

I once had a registrar a few years ago ( that I had never met before )
say to me as I was sitting down ( after shaking hands - which I always do )

Goods news Mr Pritchard -- you are no longer Diabetic - your latest HbA1c is 5.7%
me -- does that mean I didn't need to take any insulin this morning and my 38 years waiting for a cure has finally arrived ?

he didn't say another word on that subject.

I bet he didn't say that same thing to the next patient with a brilliant A1C number since you gave him a super intelligent response.  The Doc must have been absent when that part of information was covered in medical school.

Along with the Doc that told me stress doesn't affect BG and all the D consultants I'd ever had were all wrong because, You mark my words! he advised me, everyone will soon find out that you should all have an HbA1c of at least 13!

He did something it's amazingly hard for someone to do - he rendered me instantly speechless.
Don't you love 'book' experts?

Way back in the dark ages in my diagnosis year I was having a hypo at the moment when a dietician (one of the 45-60gms carb per meal and three 15 gm snacks mob) was addressing a group of us. He stated with absolute conviction that a type 2 not using insulin or meds would never have a hypo.

I am usually a mild-mannered bloke but one of my hypo side effects was irrational rage. Luckily for him one of the other effects was loss of limb control. Thus I was incapable of rising from my seat and delivering the punch in the snout my unbalanced hypoing brain was demanding I deliver.

Later I realised the reason for that hypo was reaction to the spike from the 60 gm CHO lunch I ate a couple of hours earlier, following his advice. This occurred before I first read Jennifer's advice.
Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

fab story Alan -- book experts are the bane of a lot of our lives -- and they prescribe our meds too often

I am actually looking forward to seeing what my consultant has to say about my regular readings in the mid-high 20s after my accident.  His face is going to be a picture and I'm VERY sure he'll try and lecture me about em!

I hate that they lecture, they are supposed to help us.  My Endo was going on about my results (admittedly too many hypos at the time) and said "of course it's too much insulin".   I was struggling, but you always get the feeling that they think you are doing it on purpose to run too low.  I should have said at the time "Why is it too much this month when it was the right amount last month?".  However, at least he sent me to work with the DSN.

Think I'd have said Thanks Einstein!  I never realised too much insulin caused hypos!

That's what my twerp is like - no inbuilt recognition that normal people don't have 8 hours a day to ONLY concentrate on flippin diabetes, do they?  Apparently and presumably even if you are a nuclear physicist - you aren't allowed to concentrate on anything else at all for more than about 5 minutes at a time?  (Surely splitting an atom must take a bit longer than that?)

I tend to disagree at that moment and voice my views that I am doing the best I can and try not to be swayed by what my endo's have said.
It is my body and I am the one living in it.

I'm far from swayed LOL in fact I've yet to gain anything at all from this particular one - nothing I've had to ask 'Oh - why do you say that?  What are your thoughts on whatever it is?'  whereas the previous chap you could really engage with  Hey Dr S - what d'you think about whatever? and he'd ask me stuff, Have you ever tried .... or Have you heard of .... - plus we also had human conversations like Pete saying as we sat down You look like you've been on holiday somewhere sunny!  - Oh - we went home.  Where's home? Kerala.  Oooh - I've been there - just once!  Less touristy and organised for them, than Goa LOL

Always cheerful, very knowledgeable, exceedingly sensible - appreciating that patients are first and foremost PEOPLE and have their own lives and lots of other priorities and 'just have to fit this thing in' - same as he fits us in, in between living HIS own life.  First time I ever met him I was amazed about how much he knew about me when I walked in - my God! - he's read my file!

The current twerp is more like a recording of a textbook and possibly they pack him away in a metal cupboard in between clinic sessions, and re-charge him.

At least I see the same one all the time.  Basically he's kind and I don't think he meant to be sarcastic about the insulin - I just have a tendency to get a bit flustered when I am there.

i totally agree with you -- and I think it is because we feel "under the microscope "
how can we possibly cram 6 months of everyday living with D into a 20-25 minute appointment

Well - like this one will ask me why I had 'this' hypo - good God - that was a month ago !  Do you recall what you had for breakfast that day - let alone whether you took unplanned exercise, so you were a bit under 4 when you tested pre-lunch!

does he have access to your diasend account uploads of the figures from your pump ??
( or indeed do you use diasend to uploads pump numbers ?? )

I send an email to my dsn the day before the appointment telling her I have uploaded all my numbers.
they can then access them on the computer screen in the appointment.
