An anxious time for you.  I didn't realise until my own family crisis just how prevalent this condition is.  Good luck and stay positive.

Hope so Paul !

'We' - http://tacklegroups.org.uk/site-16/   are running another Saturday morning 'drop-in' testing session in mid October.  Typically at these, about 15 to 17% of the tests done, bring results that tell the man Oooh - you need to get yourself looked at by an expert at the hospital, mate!

At a committee morning yesterday (we're Trustees and Committee members) Peter the Secretary told us that his PSA was only around 6/7 at the highest - however - his Gleason score was 5/4 !  (Highest score for any cancer anywhere, is 5/5)  Apparently - this is common, although you'd have expected it to just keep on increasing until it was treated.  He had all the symptoms though - and since his wife already had bowel cancer he was pretty committed to ensuring he got timely treatment.  How many men would think Oh, I'm not too bad ?

Good luck!  :)  A former colleague who is two months younger than me developed angina two months after me and is now in the midst of "scans" ville. However, he has now had a high PSA and been referred to his local hospital. We are planning to meet up Norfolk for a (very) long weekend with partners  so after tomorrow I will be offline till the middle of next week. We have agreed to limit the illness conversation for obvious reasons.

Sorry to disagree a bit here - the discussion Himtoo had with my husband at the forum meet about Prostate cancer was useful I think AND also useful to Patti's husband.

It's more useful for them though to talk to someone who has actually got it - and his wife also needs to talk to other wives/partners - Patti and I had numerous frank chats along the way - and we've now hooked up with one of our local support associations to assist people with the prob - we get all sorts of info both technical and general info from the speakers and other members of the group.  It's like  a physical version of his forum and I urge them to source their local help network.  That Tackle group and website which our group and website is affiliated with, lists the other affiliated groups or they can also be found on the Prostate UK website.  Even if they don't really feel they need 'help' as I say it's a useful source of relevant local info and the people involved at the NHS locally.

I agree with Sedge in a lot of ways, discussing a condition with someone else who has it can be enormously helpful.

On the other hand you don't want to spend the whole time discussing health issues on a long weekend designed for social activities and enjoying yourselves.  It might be helpful to specify a time limit on the chat, but nevertheless having it, and don't think the partners will not be interested.  If they have your interests at heart they certainly will be.

Exactly - and like the leaflet says - the fact that women can't possibly get prostate cancer doesn't mean it doesn't affect them!

Sedge

In terms of anxiety and in many other practical ways it affects us deeply.  We may have different priorities from the sufferer, but they are no less valid and what is a "partnership" about?

J has certainly had to put up with, if not assist with, much of my concern with BGs over the last couple of days.  The same works both ways.  We are there to support and help whatever happens either way.

LOL - and you wouldn't imagine any Real Man would be happy with a test of Undetectable, either, would you?

Yet you are!

Glad it went well for you. May that continue for years to come.

Dang. This topic reminded me it is time to take my Duodart again. I found the side effects too nasty when I took it daily so I now take it Wednesdays and Sundays.
Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.
