Patti, I am so pleased that Julian is clear.  He stands a good chance of it never recurring as his cancer had not spread beyond the prostate when it was removed.

We came to the meet when Pete was trying to decide on his treatment and whether to go into the trials programme.  At that stage, I don't think Paul had been diagnosed and I can't remember him talking about it.

Alan, thank you for your good wishes.  I wondered what you meant by "pyte" ?  To begin with I hadn't even noticed that "ffidicult" was spelt incorrectly and had read it as "difficult".  Once I had seen that, I realised that "pyte" was an anagram of "type".  Lol.
Diabetes Type2 diagnosed March 2014.  Treated by diet only.  HbA1c 60 on diagnosis, 52 in June 2014, 50 October 2014, 44 December 2014, 48 May 2015, 50 Sep 2015, 53 Jan 2016, 50 Oct 2016, 56 Feb 2017, 50 Jun 2017. 50 Aug 2017.  Pacemaker fitted 2008.

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want 'em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Ha ha.. pyting with fingers crossed.

I don’t want to derail the thread, so this is just an aside.... it is worth a few minutes to click on the links in Alan’s sig, one will take you to his very interesting diabetes blog, and the other will transport you to some of the most fascinating places in the world.

John rang Prostate Cancer UK yesterday and the lady he spoke to was very helpful.  I was on the other phone too so I could listen and also ask questions.  We were on the phone to her for over an hour with all our worries.  She was amazed at how little information we had been given.

She thinks John is worrying far too much and that the chemotherapy tablets, which she thinks will be prescribed next, will get rid of any rogue cancer cells.

John is still very depressed though.

It's such a shame there isn't a local group you could both go to Pauline.

Blokes at ours have had it from 5 minutes to 15 years (probably longer some of em) and between em have had every flippin treatment and drug offered.  They happily tell folk the good and bad bits whether it's incontinence, growing boobs or self catheterisation.

I'm really pleased you found the helpline useful, anyway.

If he wants to hear it again from a different source to convince himself - again you can ring the helpline at eg Tackle http://tackleprostate.org/ or a local group eg the Graham Fulford Trust.  MacMillan, too.

As Sedge suggests, it might be worth finding out if there is a local group to you Pauline.

The one in Cornwall is about an hour and a quarter's drive away.  So we didn't ever think of going.

Our nearest group is the other side of Southampton, and would take us an hour and a half to get there.

Arghhh... same as us.  Despite the support you might get there the effort involved now it's getting colder and dark early is indeed enough to put you off!

John isn't very keen on support groups.  We attended one 24 years ago when we were having difficulties managing our youngest son.  He went to one session and absolutely hated it.

You are clearly OK with health forums or you wouldn't be here  ;)   Prostate Cancer UK have a very active forum here https://prostatecanceruk.org/get-support/our-online-community
I joined and read lots of the posts and they were really helpful.  They seemed a friendly bunch and many of them were wives asking questions on behalf of their hubbies.  They seemed like a very knowledgeable bunch.  Why don't you have a look and post if you feel comfortable with the atmosphere

I recall that Paul's on the Watch and Wait list, Pauline and is getting regular tests.  Pete's are a bit spasmodic cos Urology have got out of sync with Oncology so instead of 6 monthly ones he how has to wait till next July for his next one, then he gets another in October, same as this year.  Can't say I entirely approve but that's the way it is round here.
