Back 'on topic' having had the review at the end  from Ben - I conclude that on this forum, we actually already do exactly what he suggests we should do and would be good for us - ie write about our diabetes but not just once a week - whenever we need to!  LOL

Didn't think of that, but of course it's very true.

As leader of the forum Patti - do you think it would be as well to SAY that to Ben?

How long have the likes of you and I, Alan S, Avocado etc been doing that very  thing?  Plus of course - we all get feedback from 'like minded' folk on the thoughts we share with them, which must be even more helpful than just 'getting it off our chest' ?

Yes, Sedge! Absolutely. One of the main themes that emerged when I was doing my last study was this idea of "support". I therefore tried to adapt the BPS task so that it encouraged people to seek support out and to share their thoughts and feelings with others more. What I DIDN'T consider was whether the BPS would be just as useful for people who already HAVE that support. I guess that when I'm handing out this self-management aid it's important for me to consider WHO I'm giving it out to as it seems to work for some people better than others.

Of course, it's always good when you don't need it! However, if I can get a better idea of who does and who doesn't need it will help me in the future. So yeah, I'm glad you've shared. This is invaluable feedback. I'm always open to and appreciative of people's thoughts!

Ben - I dunno HOW you can find that out.  Most of us originally came here because we found ourselves (to put it politely) up a gum tree without a paddle as far as our treatment of our diabetes was concerned.  I'd never ever been there for over 30 years before.  I needed useful MEDICAL info as the NHS wouldn't see me for over 2 years just as I started to struggle - but of course I also got the personal stuff as well.

There there dear is NBG telling a woman who is suffering work stress and a considerable amount of personal stress from my recently acquired step family - it has to be sensible stuff about what things to try to control my BG since none of em could solve the probs.  20 years later the only way I can survive is to ignore the family causing them as far as poss - and one of them has turned her life around massively (heroin back then plus other stuff)

Dunno that my writing War & Peace (LOL) could have actually preventing me topping myself, mate.  (Actually TBH I didn't think I was capable, so instead of driving into a huge tree, I knew I'd mess that up too and simply wreck my car - so what the hell was the point?)

Also, I think many many people who have T2 are actively discouraged from being engaged by the medical profession who say there is no need for them to test - just alter your diet, eat healthily (with no real advice, or even quite wrong advice), lose some weight, take these pills and come back in 3/6 months and we'll do a blood test.  At which point the poor confused patient goes away and happily takes the prescribed pills.  Some even try to eat "Healthily" i.e. follow the useless "healthy plate", go back in 3/6 months, get ticked off for "not trying" because the "Healthy Plate" does not work for either weight loss or controlling diabetes.  Become discouraged and lose interest.  Can you blame em?  We see it all too often in this forum.

So many times I have spoken to T2s and they don't know their Hba1c or even what it is and they say "Dr says my numbers are good"  - they don't want anything more to do with their own health or well being.  I have stopped trying to tell friends who have being diagnosed, otherwise I become a social bore and/or they don't believe me because "who am I?"
