hey Claire -- it is unbelievable your team discourage basal testing -- how the heck else are we meant to know if we have our rates set correctly.====( although at my last consultant appointment a couple of weeks ago I saw a different doc , and his first words to me were "" oh , you're the bloke with all the different rates set in your pump "  I thought it a bit odd at the time but just ignored it-- looking back maybe he is either not aware or dicourages.

haha -- my first choice of user name would not really have been too PC  ( brokenkidney ) so I just stumbled upon himtoo as though somebody was pointing at me to tell them I had diabetes -- LOL

really great to meet you and you WILL get on top of this -- just give yourself time , and remember to be kind to yourself .

My old DSN was convinced that Roche's algorithm of the basal rates I should need had got to be better than te ones I'd worked out by test test testing.

To shut her up I eventually tried em for a whole week - chaos!

There is absolutely no substitute for being boringly predictable with what and when you eat and testing intensively at the same time.  However TBH I begrudge spending the time on it!

Patti....oh you are fabulous! I love that brownie recipe and those snack and cakes are going to be tried over the next few weekends for Sunday pud treats! Thank you. No I'm not going to disappear.

Venomous...Hi! Yep kids all well thanks. Weren't you at the Kingsbury Water Park meet?

Sedge, Dan's just started college! Got a part time job interview Monday too. He plays a lot of sport and is doing that at college to either teach or physio I think is the plan. Oh and he is now 3 lessons in... driving...gulp!

Paul, it is unbelievable and tbh it worries me more about people who are happy to just go along blindly believing everything they are told by doctors.  I mean I know they are massively more qualified than anyone else (technically) but after working in the NHS on and off for 20 years I can categorically say they are not always right, or fair etc. Then there's people who just wouldn't be able to work all this out for themselves...but anyway that's another problem for another day.

Ps I think 'brokenkidney' would certainly have been an interesting name. Keep reading it might get a bit depressing though lol

Driving - yes, scary.  A lot scarier when it's your grandkids being let loose on the roads though!  LOL

LOL at lunch!

I was gobsmacked when I read an article many years later written by a nurse recalling it, to discover that it wasn't until after the War, in the 1950s (I was born in 1950) that the QE hospital in Birmingham that enabled pregnant diabetic women to have live births, Claire.  She'd moved from one of the London hospitals and she'd never seen it happen before.  All stillbirths or a few hours before that.  Very very sobering - and she mentioned my own first consultant in the 1970s when I 'started' - an elderly semi retired teaching Prof at the QE - as one of the doctors instrumental in enabling it to happen.  I cried, Claire.

Collectively - we owe him and other pioneers in the field for the world we all have today.

Yes, my daughter who was with me there is now in her 20's, working and living with her bf, and my son is in secondary school. I have a younger one now too who is 3 and a half! We did try for another but it didn't happen and now can't. I'm really lucky though. I'm actually starting to look forward to the "grandkids" era when it begins eventually.

T2 and PCOS. Just had large serous adenofibroma removed with ovary and fallopian tube. Bp is now normal!

Novorapid, levemir, trulicity, metformin.

I know. We are very lucky. I remember an older midwife at a clinic when I was pregnant with Dan and I was worrying and she said everything would be fine as just a few years ago I'd have never got pregnant if my control was that bad! Bit simplistic but I understood.  I've had 2 healthy pregnancies resulting in 3 wonderful kids and 2 unsuccessful which I'll always believe were my fault due to being diabetic so although I sometimes think perhaps it would be nice for 1 more in broody moments I'm more than happy and look forward to being a grandparent....just not yet  ;)

Wow. How time flies. I remember them when I drove from the meet to your hotel in Birmingham. Sometimes it seems like an eternity when you're bringing them up, then a few years later you wonder where the time went.
Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.
