What a turn up for the books!
« on: 09 November 2017, 03:57:10 PM »
Can still hardly believe it.

You may recall that in June, my optician referred me to have my left-eye cataract done, which was refused, so when I discovered that on our return from hols in September I went and got myself re-referred.  I'd heard nothing at the beginning of October, rang about a week later, to be told they had queried something with the surgery on 6th Oct -to which they'd responded on 6th Oct and that I needed to give them a month after that.

OK so I rang and queried no reply still last week - said they'd ring back - they didn't.  Rang again yesterday - promised to ring back again - they didn't. (they never do when they say that)

At lunchtime (usual time) the postman came - bloomin eck - a Choose & Book letter!!!  Rang up wondering how long ....  4th December THIS year!  LOL  It does take months and months after that to get a date for the op  (assuming the agree to d it that it) but it's getting onto the list in the first place I've had difficulty with.

Oh good news then.  Fingers crossed the op will come sooner rather than later after your appointment.  How is it with your sight now, having had one eye done and not the other.

Course you could stress how having good sight in one eye but noth the other caused you to trip and fall and injure yourself badly, therefore how urgent the op is now to prevent further accidents.

Well yeah Patti - it has had both of us wondering if it contributed?

It is very annoying - my left eye is permanently blurred therefore I daresay this must make to right eye have to work harder? - but whether it does or not, when I'm reading for awhile, more than literally just a few minutes - the right eye also blurs.  Just keep wanting to rub them - the left is like a permanent film of 'sleep' across it.

same subject - different person -- ME

I have an ongoing complaint with opthalmology at my hospital

started around 2.5 years ago -- ( to be monitored as they repeatedly fail to meet appointment targets )

they rushed an appointment to me last week ( 3 months late ) and then closed off the complaint as dealt with -- LOL

now re-opened by me as i told them -- getting me an appointment 3 months late has not solved the underlying issue -- still waiting a response on this .................

I should add -- I also complained about the reception staff failing to answer their telephone -- instead filing their nails , discussing prior night dates etc -- whilst ignoring the patient queue--

Good grief Paul - I should think you did complain!

Have to say - our more 'local' hospital is a LOT better at 'people skills' in every department I have experienced, than the University hospital.  Friendly and cheerful - just more 'human' in general.

and add the fact that the actual eye department itself ( not just the appointment section )seems to be teetering on the edge of chaos............... there are three different waiting rooms so the consultant has to come out of his office and potentially walk through all 3 waitings rooms until someone responds ( very time consuming )

and there are 2 machines that do the digital pictures of our eyes -- so when you walk in the consultant has to ask which machine you were photographed on -- then he disappears for 5 minutes to go look at the pics
( 5 years ago the pics were available on the PC in his office -- god knows why they taken this backward time consuming step )

Today's Xrays revealed that my kneecap is now healing 'well' - and all the nice new white fuzzy stuff where the spaces were last time proved it.  I laughed and said 'I hoped it was new bone growth - cos I watch all the vet programs on TV when Noel does ortho surgery!' -he looked at me 'gone out' whilst his 'apprentice' and Pete the other side of me giggled !

Wants to see me in 4 weeks which translated to 8th January LOL and gave me a form to take along to Physio to arrange my first appointment.  Apparently 'they already have a treatment plan' - bloomin eck - this Thursday morning!

Retinopathy tomorrow morning, I'll be worn out at this rate!

Very pleased to hear your news Sedge.  Good luck with physio.

Thought I'd broken something in my foot yesterday.  Was sitting on the side of the bed in my PJs pump in my lap, holding my iPad.  Pumpy slipped, I grabbed it before it was able to pull the cannula out and dropped the sharp corner of the iPad right onto the top of my foot.  A lot of swearing ensued - it was soooo painful.  Huge bruise today, but since I can bear weight on it I am guessing it's just bruised.

Just something the same but different - retinopathy photos this morning so still mega blurred - 3 or 4 goes to get the left one cos the cataract was in the way! Said they both looked OK anyway which is excellent except its too early for the recent high BGs to be showing I suppose, will have to wait and see - BUT surely gotta help em decide to sort it SOON ?
