Update on John
« on: 19 November 2017, 04:38:51 PM »
Quote from patti.

I don't want to  :threadhijack:
but Pauline I do want to know what news of John.  Can you start another thread to update us please?

John has an appointment booked with the urologist on 7th December.  It is likely that he will then be referred to the oncologist.......  another wait?
We spoke to our GP and she has arranged another PSA test for him on 30th November so he has the results when he sees the urologist.  There has been no mention of a scan.

This morning, John passed a lot of blood, the first for several months since having the treatment a year ago which was ongoing until January.  He did pass a little blood back in August but then nothing until today.  He is going to ring the nurse at the hospital tomorrow.  She was involved with his treatment and said he should ring her if bleeding reoccurs.

John has been very depressed these past few months and is very tearful.  He will not go and see the GP about it.  He is stressed having our son back home and that doesn't help when he is having all these health problems.

He has lost a stone and a half of weight since the end of June by following my advice and going on a low carb diet.  The dietician he saw through the Health Service was in agreement with his cutting down on carbs.  He sees her again tomorrow.

No real progress then since I gave my last report.   ::)

Diabetes Type2 diagnosed March 2014.  Treated by diet only.  HbA1c 60 on diagnosis, 52 in June 2014, 50 October 2014, 44 December 2014, 48 May 2015, 50 Sep 2015, 53 Jan 2016, 50 Oct 2016, 56 Feb 2017, 50 Jun 2017. 50 Aug 2017. 47 Feb 2018  Pacemaker fitted 2008 - replaced 2017.

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want 'em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Oh dear, the wheels do grind exceeding slow... no appointment until 7 Dec and then even a referral will have to surmount the Xmas hiatus!  How dreadful!

I am really sorry to hear about the recent bleed.  No wonder he is depressed and tearful.  It must feel like a never ending battle that has no hope of end, but hopefully once things get going with the appointments a resolution can be found.  It's hard if he won't see the GP... but even so, and if she prescribed anti-depressants, they do come with their own side effects which are sometimes quite unpleasant.

I hope the nurse can shed some light and instigate some treatment.

Same here... {{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}} to both of you from us both!

Thank you for your replies.

John had a letter from the Urologist today.  They discussed his case at one of their meetings and have now postponed his appointment on 7th December and given him an appointment for 4th January!!

They now say that cancer cells will not show up on a scan until the PSA is over 2 whereas when the Urologist wrote to our GP several months ago, he said that he would see John if and when his PSA goes to 0.2.

John didn't get a chance to ring the nurse this afternoon regarding the bleeding as he had two other appointments.  I think he will wait and see if it reoccurs.

Patti, unless he gets the bleeding again, I don't think he will ring her now.  He will, of course, mention it to the Consultant when he sees him on 4th January.

Ahhh OK.  Men!  Just simply will not get anything seen if it's not happening right now.

Julian hurt his knee moving.  He will whinge about it from time to time... but not phone the physio, despite the fact that we have a health policy which will pay for the physio.  So I rang her yesterday and got him an appointment.

John hasn't whinged about it since the day when it happened and everything was running clear afterwards and continues to do so.

LOL Pauline - substitute the appropriate term eg struggling with it, suffering from it, whatever fits the situation.

Neither of em actually whinged about either of the problems - that's why I started getting suspicious about whatever they each had.  I mean if either of them did something normal be it cutting a finger or stubbing a toe - they swear, bellow Owww! and 'do a dance' etc, same as anyone would.
