Animas cease UK trading
« on: 22 January 2018, 02:04:46 PM »
I've just had a letter this morning that Animas is going to stop supplying pumps in the UK. There wasn't much info really in the letter, it said there would be more info to follow. They are also working with Medtronic as their preferred partner. I wonder if they knew about this when they replaced my pump at the end of last year?

I think I'm the only member that is very active that uses the Vibe?

Oooh er.... how worrying Liam.  I think my pump clinic had wind of that when they offered me a Combo pump again!

I wonder how good the support will be now?

I would have thought, if they are 'working with Medtronic' in any meaningful way they'll make B sure the support is A1, so as to wean the Animas users over to Medtronic with no problems.

Looks like they want a monopoly ........

They have emailed me the letter too so I've copied it here in case it is useful to anyone.

Quote from: Animas Letter

Dear Valued Animas® Customer,

We understand the trust and confidence you place in our products and company, and we recognize that you rely on our products to provide critical care and maintain your day-to-day health. It is, therefore, very important that you have accurate information about a decision made by Animas Corporation to discontinue the manufacture and sale of Animas® Vibe® insulin pumps, close operations and exit the insulin pump business in the U.K. and Ireland. We want to ensure you understand what this decision means for you and your diabetes care.

If you are currently using an Animas pump and pump supplies, you will continue to receive pump support and services. Specifically, Animas will continue to provide customer service and warranty support, including providing pump supplies that are used in conjunction with the Animas® Vibe®, through a transition period. As part of our continued commitment to patient care, Animas will honour pump warranties. If you currently use LifeScan, Dexcom or Diasend products, continue to use them. You will continue to receive the same customer care.

We have selected Medtronic as our preferred partner to facilitate a seamless insulin delivery system transition period. One of the reasons we chose Medtronic is because of its strong track record providing outstanding patient care and support. For over 30 years, Medtronic has been a global leader in the treatment of those living with diabetes, and we are confident that they will provide outstanding support to you and your healthcare team. We will contact you in the near future to discuss next steps and transition plans. In the meantime, your Animas support and care will continue as it has.

This decision to close Animas operation was extremely difficult and comes following an extensive exploration of all other viable options for the business. Our number one priority is ensuring you have a seamless experience and continuity of care. Of course, you should work with your Healthcare Professional to decide which insulin delivery system is right for you.

Please reach out to the Animas Customer Support team at 0800 028 8039 (Ireland: 1800 812 715) if you have questions (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm).

We are incredibly grateful for your trust, confidence and loyalty and for the opportunity to help you with your diabetes care.

Sincerely,
Vika Potarina

I'm wondering who that leaves in the UK as pump suppliers?  Roche - having difficulties themselves.  Medtronic, Omnipod and who else?

Ah also see this chart, not that you hear of the other two (Cellnovo and Ypsomed) much if at all.

Prior to this, my hospital offered Roche or Animas.  Then because of the problems that impinged on those issued (from my clinic) with the Roche Insight, they discontinued offering it and did a deal with Animas and Medtronic.  When Animas dropped out of the US market I think they had prior warning that the same was going to happen here.  Hence I was offered another Combo, which in truth has been very reliable for me, or the Medtronic.  I just think the market in the UK is seriously narrowing.
