Well Jim I'm beginning to wonder if you own Glucomen - because you mention your meter in every single post!

There are other meters that do exactly the same thing you know.

Plus many of us don't ever find the need for one that measures ketones.  If you do, you do, so fine.  If I ever do then I'll be stumped cos I ain't changing my meter and I ain't carrying 2 about with me!

I was thinking the same, decided not to report it (I had been thinking about it) because I was fairly sure one of the mods would pickup on it. I would have sent a message about it if it kept happening. I also felt that Jim could just be someone that really feels strongly about type Is needing blood ketone testing.

hee hee, not saying anything except never feel inhibited in reporting stuff, if your fears are unfounded the OP will never know you reported it anyway and as some of you will be aware if your fears ARE founded, no public acknowledgement of the report is made either.

But we are exceedingly grateful when people keep their eye out for Spamalot !

Thread participants may or may not be interested to know that the WaveSense Jazz meter, on NHS Gloucestershire's "approved list", is made by the firm which has in the last few years acquired its Managing Director from Menari, which makes the Glucomen meters...

I'm not quite sure what that proves, but there you are!
Type 2, diagnosed June 1993, on insulin since May 2005; last HbA1c (Jan 2013): 42 mmol/mol = 6.0%;
early morning: Levemir, 37 u;
at each main meal: NovoRapid, ~10-20 u, with Metformin, 1 g;
just before bedtime: Levemir, 37 u; also aspirin, but simvastatin no longer.

I have to saay I've dealt with Alec and he was a good bloke who seemed genuinely interested and helpful. I used the Wavesense and felt (without scientific basis) that it was the most accurate meter I'd used. However it was also the most sensitive to temperature and I had to abandon it as even on an average autumn day the thing refused to work in ambient outdoor tempertures. It's possibly because I was lifting out the strips (sensor end first, as they are/were packaged) and my circulation is poor, hence very cold fingers.
T1 DX 06/2003 ex-Lantus/Novo, now using Medtronic Paradigm Veo with Apidra. Dafne graduate.

A lateral whinge on that.

I have mostly used Accu-chek, with occasional side trips to One-touch. All of the strip containers I have used have required me to pick my strip out by the end the blood is applied to. Considering that I often washed my hands just before selecting the strip from the others in the container my fingers will often still be moist, despite being towel-dried, when I touch that most sensitive-to-moisture section of the strip.

Why do they do that? It would seem so simple to me to pack the strips the other way around.

Perhaps that end is less sensitive than the other, cos there's electronicky bits at the other end, well I've always assumed the pattern on the blunt end was a printed circuit, if not what is it? - so assume that end is even worse to get wet?

You could be right, but I understood that even faint dampness where the blood is applied can cause erroneous readings. If the electrodes get damp enough to cause circuitry errors then I doubt it would work at all.

FWIW I had successive "wet strip" Errors with the first meter I had with my pump Alan.  My hands were never wet.  The middle of my dining table and the inner reaches of my handbags had not sprung leaks.  And different tubs of strips.  And a new scrip and different batch numbers etc etc.  Roche kept saying it was me.  I kept saying I've been using a Glucometer now since they invented em practically, please don't treat me like an idiot.

Eventually I rang after hours - a Saturday night - because the out of hours pump helpline is manned by a more intelligent species than the one I actually kept going through to during office hours.

Within 20 minutes, they'd agreed there MUST be summat up and agreed to replace the meter.  Which they did.

And curiously you know, the specific person who I had the trouble with, has never ever answered the phone to me again .....
