Living with diabetes > Introduce yourself
Newbie to the forum, saying Hi!!
BobC:
Hi Everyone!
I'm Bob, diagnosed as type 2 two and a half years ago! I live in leafy Surrey!
I have been treated thus far with Repaglinide, Metformin (2G) Gliclizide (320mg), which initially worked, but later saw me reading between 2 - 29! My last fasting HbA1c (06/12) was 14.6, at which time I was moves to Lantus SoloStar Insulin, and am now 'counting carbs' with a view to dropping the Gliclizide BD in favour of rapid acting insulin before meals.
The carb counting is going well, but any tips or tricks appreciated! I'm seeing 4.5 quite often these days, whereas before I was averaging 14-15.
I work in hospital operating theatres, so I know loads about surgery and drug interactions, but little to nothing about medicine and medical conditions!
:)

Pattidevans:
Hi Bob and welcome to the forum.
Has anyone ever mentioned to you the problem with eating carbohydrates and why they push your BG up? Do you have a meter and strips to use with it? Well, I assume you have from your post, but the two are intertwined and I'd be surprised if you couldn't lower BGs with lower carb intake. My understanding of your post is a bit muddled as to whether you understand why and how you should be counting carbs...
Sorry, it's late but wanted to say welcome.
BobC:
Hi Patti, and thanx for the welcome!
Sorry for the ambiguity, in first post! I do test regularly, but the general consensus seems to be that I have been randomly producing / reacting to insulin, one day would produce good results whilst another day on an identical, portion controlled diet, would produce wildly different results?
I'm a 'work in progress'!

Hi Bob
Sooooo - why did they happen to decide you were T2? Did they do GAD65 Antibody or C-peptide tests - or just decide cos you were of a certain age that you must be T2?
Am wondering whether you may be a T1.5 - typically initially responds to T2 meds, then changes its mind and only responds to T1 meds - ie 100% insulin .....
Do you see an Endo/Diabetes consultant or are you left to the tender mercies of your GP?
BobC:
Hi Sedge,
I'm guessing because of my age? I've never been overweight, currently 10stone 6lb.
I haven't heard of T 1.5, or the tests you mentioned, do elaborate?
:)
Bob
