Fungal nails can take forever and may never get better. My dh (who does not have diabetes) has had them for years and years. Lamisil is the drug and it can cause serious liver damage which would appear to be fairly common. Both a skin specialist, chiropodist and GP my dh saw advised against Lamisil even though dh doesn't have any liver problems nor does he take any other medication. The GP, who is in his early 30's, told dh that he has fungal nails too: "a friend for life" he told him. The GP would not take Lamisil either.
Loceryl nail laquer is the only thing dh uses and that isn't very effective….might be worse without it though. He also gets his nails trimmed and cleaned by chiropodist so they don't look so bad.
