Cross your fingers for me everyone
« on: 04 November 2015, 02:25:05 PM »
Been more than a little depressed lately partly the slow death of my first husband which led to constantly consoling advising and just being there and also being unable to control my diabetes .You may recall that in some of my posts have said how Levemir doesent work and Lantus seizes my ankles up painfully and so went onto mixed 30/70 which at first seemed okay but slowly readings higher and higher .Present hubby has mild alzheimers and is very oversensitive so that I could not grieve for first husband even though over 30 years of my life were with him and he was not a good husband or father but still thats a half of my life i cant erase but have been taking my dogs for long walks while doing the crying that i couldent at home and of course my mind rebelled and down i went into a black hole mentally with diabetes suffering too .Two weeks ago Dr prescribed anti depressants which really raise bgs and give insatiable appetite meanwhile on Moday had hba1c done and yet again asked for Tresiba but same answer this trust wont give it!.Today Dr reviewed my anti depressants and I told her how much being out of control with my diabetes has contributed to my state of mind and also said how i feel being there is an insulin that may or may not benefit but in trusts opinion im not worth it .Asked how much  private script would cost and bless her she checked her mimms for pricing and was shocked to find the difference between say Lantus and Tresiba to be only about £25 for five months which she said in the scale of drug prices was very litttle and she is going to speak to DNS ahead of my visit to her next week .MY doc isnt the practices diabetes dr so its still up in the air but three months ago hba1c 53 and this week 61 !!! so hope something will help

That post wasn't long at all :)

What a difficult position you are in, I am so sorry you feel you can't grieve because that's so important. Would it help to give it another name perhaps? "I'm sad because I have a headache" at least then you could grieve as and when you need to. Maybe some counselling by the GP might help, rather than just antidepressants.

Hope the doc gets the script okayed!!

Feel better soon x

I won't make any excuses for your husband - except to say - there may actually be some.

However I just wonder - bearing in mind this has happened to me - whether it's actually stress that's causing all your problems?

So very sorry to hear of your present circumstances Victoria and please accept my sincere condolences.  Things cannot be easy for you.

I hope you get to try Tresiba to see if it works for you.  I do agree with Sedge though that the stress will no doubt be causing your BGs to misbehave.  When I was under a lot of stress a few years back it was a real battle with BGs.

Try to see if you can have some counselling as I am sure it would help.

Forgot to say it was my five kids who all needed the ear and going over it all with each one was hard so yes Sedge and Patti stress is a great possibility. Two weeks down the line since the funeral maybe I can chill out a little and help lower those awful levels

No need to apologise. I can't help with anything practical. I hope it helps a little to know someone cares from half a world away.

Best wishes for the right decision by your DNS.

So sorry for what you are going through Victoria.

I agree with the others that stress will massively affect your BG's & that in return will cause you stress so maybe can you (for now) accept that your BG's will be higher for a while but know they will get better when things improve all round?

In the meantime, do all anti-depressants raise BG's? There are lots of different ones & they can be very helpful in the short term, maybe you or the GP could try & find out?

I wish you luck with the Tresiba, £25 over 5 months is miniscule. I think sometimes they don't put much thought into what they are actually saying. Thank goodness for this GP.

Dns says NO NO to any new insulins eg tresiba or toujeo as glos health wont pay for it but has suggested insuman basal twice a day ,have had insulatard before without much success and cant see anything different between insuman and insulatard so is this just to shut me up for a bit or are there any differences ? :-\

I had another thought actually Victoria - have you ever tried animal insulin?  - only Wockhardt process it in the UK now.

They could hardly accuse it of being new - and I believe it may actually be cheaper anyway!

Victoria

I know this is going to sound a bit "off the wall", but it might be worth doing.  Could you possibly give us all your BG results for say 24 hours, telling us the times of the tests and what you ate and when corresponding with the tests.  Plus what insulin you took and when. There might be something that we can collectively spot that perhaps you can't.

Have plenty of bg results but no food info to go with them so from tomorrow will keep a diary and we will see where the problem lies. One interesting thing I forgot indapamide (water pill) yesterday and woke today 2 points down and again at pre lunch today 5.6 wow for me excellent then PING indapamide not helping bgs but without it blood pressure really rises and already take max ramipril for that so am torn between both probs :banghead:

So frustrated for you. I know how difficult it is coming up against walls that don't need to exist and yet doctors create them for us. So frustrating!! I hope you're able to get a script for a different insulin or different insulin schedule soon.
