As you know, it was 20+ years before my optician saw anything (and I saw him every 12 months same as I do the current encumbent - but before that event - it was only a year or two after they'd even suggested looking at my eyes in the D clinic - and everyone did it just with their own eyesight and an Opthalmoscope - a good few years before I'd even met one of those slit lamp machines, let alone the magic camera! - so 20-odd years for me - but there again - I was 30+ years younger than you when I was diagnosed anyway, and I wasn't ever treated as anything other than T1 from my initial GP's visit to report the symptoms! Hence, I regard the 14 years as much the same as my 20.
It's a bugger - finding out that we aren't totally immune to the 'progressive' things they tell us about on Day 1- a severe blow to the ego indeed I recall vividly - so I do sympathise now you know you're 'normal' too LOL - but let's face it if you can then progress another 20 odd years and still need no treatment for it same as me - I don't honestly feel you ought to waste any time worrying !
One of the regular technicians - who I'd seen in previous years 3 or 4 times before, from the service at their base at Rugby said to me 2+ years ago about what she could see in my eyes was 'that a few odd teeny effects always happened after about 10 years' - in response to which me and Pete both burst out laughing! So, actually, we're both 'rather good' aren't we - if that's what they're used to seeing ?
