Yes, I would read the numbers you posted as "generally stable" across the morning, rather than "down and then up." Technically a change has to be more than 1.7 for it to "count" as changing, BG readings on a meter can fluctuate by at least that much just randomly (your BG actually fluctuates + test strip technology is not 100% accurate).

Reading your post made me wonder, since you don't mention it - do you eat breakfast normally? BGs rise naturally during that time anyway, and a lot of people find they rise more when they skip breakfast. Personally, I'm not a big breakfast fan so rather than eating breakfast I sometimes take a little extra short-acting insulin in the morning even though I'm not eating. By the looks of the readings you shared, it doesn't look like you need it, but it can be an option to keep in mind if you find that to be a struggle later on!

Nytquill17,
Yes I do eat breakfast, readybrek and blueberries exactly the same every day, very boaring  but good as a constant. Only a small portion I find at breakfast I need more insulin to carbs; food = 24 carbs, and I have 3 units of humalog.

Good result after your protein snack suggestion, had some cheese and a cup of tea at 9.30 and my lunch time bs was the same as before breakfast. Not quite as filling or appealing as half a cereal bar, but it was a good result.

What I thought was quite a difference then, from what you and Patti said, is not too much as all.......that’s good to know thank you.

I recommend our savoury muffins in the recipe section here http://diabetes-support.org.uk/diabetes_forum/index.php/topic,1304.0.html
If you scroll down you will see lots of variations in flavour.  I think my favourite is Parmesan, sun dried tomato and basil.  At 1.5g carb each they are quite substantial and satisfying and you could even have 2.

Oh and if you made a batch or so they freeze well.

Himtoo,

Thank you, maybe I am being hard on myself and maybe unrealistic in my expectations. I will try to relax a bit and cut back on the testing.......it’s hard. Comments from you all help me, as I like to be in control and I know there is a limit to that control. I want it to be perfect and I know it really can’t be
no lovely -- you are not being hard on yourself -- you are doing pretty much what i think all of us do -- strive for a perfection that can never exist-- so that is the reason for saying be kind to yourself --- we are all human and all of us can have off days ( or hours or weeks etc )

Thank you, as always

How long should I wait  after eating the muffin to test? Tried 30 mins but I think I must have been going down any way as before muffin 6.8 after muffin 5.2. ( forgot to inject lantus at usual time so that may have had an effect) will try again.

HbA1c improved
From 7.8 down to 7.3

Have been on holiday and had pudding every day, so a bit irratic levels, but  now I am back my bs levels are very good, it’s like a miracle! But I know they can change again at the drop of a hat but at the moment I am just enjoying the numbers😄

I am smiling after reading your post just above --- perhaps the holday has helped stress levels which in turnmay have helped the BG levels ( who knows )
But long may it continue !!

as for how long to test after the muffin -- I would suggest between 90 minutes to 120 minutes post muffin munch !! :)

Hiya

Advice given by Alan to T2s testing out foods is 1hr after first bite, then 90 mins and then 120 mins to find their peak.  I know it’s possibly different for peeps on insulin, but I’ve always gone by that and it seems to work for me.  However, bear in mind that with T1 things can vary every day due to all sorts of other factors and one day the muffin may be fine (cos you had a walk or something) and another day the muffin may spike you. Are these the low carb muffins?  If they are they shouldn’t raise you much if at all.

Holidays are wonderful and I can usually eat pretty freely and if something spikes me I don’t worry over much.

Well done on lowering Hba1c... onwards and downwards eh?
Patti

That's basically it. Often insulin users find their peak is a little later than an hour, although a lot depends on the carb:fat:protein mix of the meal and the bolus regimen. The only way to find out is to test the same food or menu at the same time of day often enough to see a consistent pattern.

agree -- it does eat up a few strips but helps to get to know what the body is doing !!!
