So, me and dh joined the gym yesterday. Well we joined Thursday but went for the first time yesterday. Felt great but only swam. Have an induction and programme tomorrow evening after work. I've got lots of little ailments post accident so not going to get a massive programme, but want to build a little muscle to try help with insulin resistance. I wonder if the guy with have any idea what I'm on about?!?!

:) just be safe young lady !!!!!!!!!

( i am sure you will )

as with all things concerning D -- i would suggest a slow build up to a full regime to allow for you to make adjustments to your insulin doses.

safety is important

all the best

This is something I always think about but never make the step too do. I'd like more muscle for the look as well as hopefully lowering my IR. I like to just be more fit in general too. My heart rate is pretty high at resting (about 100bpm) and from what I've read exercise is the answer to that too.

My GP has just referred me to the hospital fitness club.  I will have to pay for the gym and pool but I think it could be worth it.

Are you still going to the gym, Sami and if so are you still attending 5 times a week?  I won't be able to go that often as it is a 30 mile round trip to the hospital.

I will have my assessment and take it from there.  I may just opt for the pool rather than the gym as I have spinal problems and am very limited to what I can do.

Did you lose weight Sami and have your bg levels dropped?

I have managed to lose a bit of weight again after a big gain last spring but I have been stuck now since Xmas. I do still go to the gym but not in the gym I do 3-4 Zumba classes per week and even though I have not lost weight my shape has changed I also have a home gym set up in my loft room and do approx 100 km on my bike up there plus kettle bells and dumb bell weights. As for my bg yes it helps lots to keep it lower when I’m exercising I use 1/4 of the insulin I have to use when not exercising in fact nights I do Zumba I don’t take any with my meals hope this helps

Thanks for your reply Sami.  I just looked up Zumba classes and they look a lot less boring than just going to a gym.  It's a pity you weren't able to lose any weight though.  If you changed shape, did you convert fat into muscle?  I need to get rid of my fat stomach.

I have put on 7lbs since the Autumn despite being on a LCHF diet.  I need to sort myself out soon.

My referral form has come back approved and I now have to contact the hospital for an appointment for an assessment.

It sounds like you have got more muscle, Sami and are a lot taller than me.  I got down to 14st 5lbs 6 months ago and was a size 20 - 22.  Although I have put on 7lbs since then, my dress size is still the same!
