Just an update on John as we went to see his Urology Consultant yesterday. He is to have PSA tests every 3 months now and when the result reaches 3.0 or above, he has to ring the Consultant's secretary who will let him know, so he can book a PET scan for John. He will need to go to Oxford for the scan to ascertain where the cancer cells are and then he would require chemotherapy. At the rate in which John's PSA is increasing, it will probably reach 3.0 in 3 to 6 months time.
We spoke about John's ongoing haematuria and the Consultant is going to arrange some more treatment with iAluril, as it successfully stopped the bleeding for almost a year when used before.
He mentioned that John should get plenty of exercise. I said that we wanted to swim but it was not possible whilst John is bleeding. He then said that as a cancer patient John is entitled to use the hospital pool and fitness suite. He was pleased that John had lost weight through his low carb diet. He now weighs 15 st 11 lbs and was about 18 st when he started dieting at the end of June.
