I really missed having a few sweets when I was diagnosed with diabetes.
However, about 3 or 4 months ago I found some Werther's Original Sugar Free Butter Candies in Morrisons. Next time I was in, they also had some Werther's Original Sugar Free Creamy Toffees and they are really yummie!
Other supermarkets did not sell them and Morrisons store is 17 miles away so I was pleasantly surprised to find yesterday that Tesco are now stocking them. No matter how many I eat, they don't seem to affect my stomach, though the packets do say they may produce laxative effects.
There is one thing I am puzzled about and that is that the candies are shown to have 87% carbs of which <0.5% are sugars and the toffees are 76.4% carbs of which sugars are <0.5%. Where are the carbs coming from as I would not associate any of the ingredients as being high in carbs? They mainly consist of sweeteners, palm fat, butter, cream and flavourings. Is it just the sugar carbs that I need to be careful with? I must admit that I haven't tested my bgs yet after eating them.
