I want to try to get my health back up the priority list now my little one is not so little, im getting a bit more time to myself now he has started nursery school too.

Off to have a browse through the recent postings now to try to catch up a little.

Hiya Feejee and welcome back.

Gosh, as Nyt says, it's hard to believe he's old enough for nursery school.

I do hope you stick around and we can all support each other.

Gosh - doesn't time fly!  Such a lot has happened since we last saw you ...

But where are you at, yourself, and what are your main aims today?

Hi all, thanks for the welcome back.

At the moment my latest HbA1c was pretty poor, i think it was 8.0, it was on its way back down 6 months ago but this last test was higher (it mimics the weight loss/gains very well).

Im still having personal training sessions and started up with circuit training again this week.  I've had (still have but not so bad) problems with my neck since last March which has limited my exercise.  Just sat at the desk at work one day and next day i couldn't move it, then had a near miss in my car and had to slam brakes on and swerve at the same time which wrenched the neck and shoulder again).

Main aims today are: losing weight and maintaining lower carb diet again to try to reduce the bg levels, as well as doing my best to avoid injury and illness (although currently have a poorly boy so im sure ill get that by the weekend!).  I spent from September 2016  - March 2017 pretty much ill, tonsilitis twice, then pneumonia which dragged on for 8 weeks plus some normal colds.  Did lose a fair amount of weight on the plus side, and im always thankful when its not a vomiting bug!

Anyhow, i get 2 hours a day free now half the week so i have time to prep decent food and look after myself a bit better.

what Paul said, plus - can you get some physio or something for your neck/back?  Please don't ignore it.  It's at least whiplash - and that can trap nerves and all sorts.

I agree, if you can find a good physio then it's worth it even if you have to pay privately.  I went to see an Osteopath for years and still had a problem where I had broken my vertebra.  2 sessions with an excellent physio and I was pain free for weeks.  Even now I only need to go a couple of times a year.

Glad you have more time for yourself.  Preparing meals takes time and you do deserve that time.  Having had one ailment after another will not have helped your BG.  I am rarely ill but came down with this Aussie flu over Christmas and saw for myself the difference in BGs.

I did have several months of physio for my neck over the summer, which has improved the situation, but as the physio said its going to take a while so i've been doing my exercises on my own.

I took myself along to a high intensity interval circuit training session on Thursday eve and could feel the difference in my energy levels all day Friday (and can now feel the muscle aches in my calves!).  I need to re-find my meter and get some strips as well.

That's your priority this week then Feejee - find that elusive machine!

Good gentle exercise for knees quads and calves is to stand with your back against something you can easily slide down - eg  the door jambs, the flat part where they open, both feet away from the 'wall' and slide your back down, when you feel SLIGHT strain anywhere hold it and slide back up again.

Obviously this isn't aerobic exercise for weight loss, but it's good for muscles and getting more oxygenating blood through your arteries - and it takes just a minute to do 10 repetitions.  Being gentle, it builds up strength without strain!  Hopefully, it will help stop your calves complaining too.
