Administration Cost Of Repeat Perscription
« on: 13 February 2018, 01:51:46 PM »
Besides the cost of the medication repeat prescriptions incur an administration cost. I was wondering if someone knew how much this was? As I was  being prescribed my medication in different quantities, either 56 or 84 days, I was getting a full repeat twice and missing out the 84-day ones on the third. Then someone decided I was stockpiling the 84-day ones. Add in the heart medications I am now on and I am having to get a repeat every 28 days. Surely this carries a cost which could make the alleged cost of stockpiling the 84-day ones (they are the cheapest drugs like atorvastatin) irrelevant!

I dunno about Admin, but there is definitely a charge made by all pharmacies to dispense each item and I presume it is the same price whether it's Digitalis or Aspirin.  Controlled drugs might cost more on the basis the pharmacies have to do a bit more in terms of both security of them and record keeping.  The long and short of it is - insulin users are routinely issued with the wherewithal to kill anyone we meet and we're trusted with that but we aren't trusted not to over-order and stockpile other things that we can't easily kill someone else with.

They give me a £3,000 pump and are happy but I'm not allowed to have very many £30 pots of test strips.

I don't bother getting wound up about it - if you ever want to organize a booze-up at Cape Hill Brewery though - just don't ask the Government to organise it!
