Menopause!
« on: 22 February 2018, 08:14:05 PM »
Well, menopausal symptoms are making life pretty miserable right now. I don't know how you ladies have got through this! GP wont treat me due to remaining tumours so I was sent to a clinic in north London that apparently exists just to treat menopausal ladies....and once they did a scan they wouldn't treat me either and suggested to GP I go back to hospital. Hospital said menopause can be treated by GP.... so round we go in circles again. :/
T2 and PCOS. Just had large serous adenofibroma removed with ovary and fallopian tube. Bp is now normal!

Oh gawd.  Can the GP not refer you to another gynaecologist to obtain a second opinion - in the hope they can offer you some help?

OMG as Sedge said!  I presume the menopausal symptoms are coming on as a result of the op you had?  Or are you just going through it anyway?  What have the hospital said about the remaining tumours?

TBH I just more or less toughed the menopause out.  I was on HRT at one point for PMT but I said to the GP that I could no longer stand the period pains I had every month as I was working 24/7 in our own business and she said "well take the patch off then".  It was bad advice as you are supposed to wean yourself off HRT but I pulled it off then and there and that was it.  All the symptoms, but to be fair I got through it and was grateful to come out the other end.

I can't remember having any symptoms from the menopause other than heavy bleeding.  When I was in my late 40's, I lost a lot of blood every month and I was unable to control it.  When I was in my early 50's, they took me in for a TCRE which takes away the lining of the womb.  That put a halt to my periods and I had no menopause symptoms.  I count myself lucky as my Mum had a terrible time when she went through hers.  She had bad headaches for about 10 years.

Venomous, I agree with Sedge that you should see your GP and ask to see another consultant.
Diabetes Type2 diagnosed March 2014.  Treated by diet only.  HbA1c 60 on diagnosis, 52 in June 2014, 50 October 2014, 44 December 2014, 48 May 2015, 50 Sep 2015, 53 Jan 2016, 50 Oct 2016, 56 Feb 2017, 50 Jun 2017. 50 Aug 2017. 47 Feb 2018. 50 Jul 2018. Pacemaker fitted 2008 - replaced 2017.

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want 'em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

My GP is being a pain. I asked for an intimate moisturiser like vagifem today and they said no, not even that until they get the green light from the hospital. I am in hospital Monday but only for imaging of the remaining tumours, I don't see the hospital gynae consultant myself until the middle of next month so I shall ask -again- about HRT and moisturisers etc if I don't hear anything before that. Surely someone has to be reasonable??

I'm not sure if I would have been becoming menopausal without the surgery...it may not have been too many years off I think, but since surgery I have had hot sweats at night, trouble sleeping at night (and wanting to sleep in the morning!), no periods, my FSH score is 35 (which is deemed completely menopausal) and I'm moody and forgetful and most painfully the inner bits hurt (a lot), sex is completely impossible :/ The only symptom I seem to be avoiding as yet is the headaches.... I dont need that symptom too lol

Not an answer to your NHS woes but you can buy Vagifem over the counter, check the uses/side effects online if you are worried and good luck trying to find help x

I don't think you can get vagifem otc, you can get vagisil, but not the vagifem which contains the oestrogen....as far as I know.

You can buy the likes of KY jelly over the counter and that might help.  Vagifem is a small pill, inserted with a long plastic "inserter" twice a week (IIRC) that infuses the tissue in the vagina making it more elastic, it's not really a moisturiser as such V.

The moisturisers that do anything (because they contain oestrogen) are also prescription only - and they aren't for exclusively external use either - in other words, you use them regularly not when you wish to participate in err, conjugal rights.

Have you actually been examined to see if you need the hormonal variety?

Finally got HRT today. One tablet once a day every day. Pleased with how simple that is!

Also had my ovary and tumours checked (measured). The tumours are now about 9cm, which they say is "stable" so just sent away and "come back in another 6 months".

So no-one mentioned it to me and I should have asked, but shouldn't I take aspirin with HRT?

Glad to hear you are having some treatment now v.  I have no idea what modern treatment is since I am 20years the other side of the menopause, but I do not recall ever having to take aspirin.

Nor I patti though it's been over 10 years since they stopped my HRT.  Cursorily thinking about that - it's about 1 months before 'my problems down there' got established .......  If I'd known then what I now know I'd have fought tooth and nail to keep it!
