Statins refused
« on: 26 April 2018, 08:25:59 AM »
Just had my lates blood test results cholesterol 4.
New diabetic Dr. At surgery. Wanted me to take statins. So as usual, fantastic information from you all, it’s been a lot of reading, but glad I did, had no decision to make, and said no. My diabetic nurse agreed with me too!
I was well pleased with 4. Especially as I have gone back to eating butter, lots of cream, and not worrying a bit about eating fat.
Again all due to the excellent information on this site, your research and time.
Thank you.
Cheryl

Wanted you to take statins when your cholesterol is already at target?? (4 is the target for diabetics, although personally I think that might be even a little too low!)

Some people really do think that the goal of treatment is to get cholesterol down to zero!! Crazy. Glad you could make an informed decision! :)

Me too.  I do think sometimes Drs just go "Oh, received wisdom says all diabetics should be on statins".  Also I think they get a payment for getting people with D on a statin.

I was a student from 1994 to 1998 and I have never heard of them either!

The link does say that "they are a series of student study guides available primarily in the United States" so that could explain it.
Diabetes Type2 diagnosed March 2014.  Treated by diet only.  HbA1c 60 on diagnosis, 52 in June 2014, 50 October 2014, 44 December 2014, 48 May 2015, 50 Sep 2015, 53 Jan 2016, 50 Oct 2016, 56 Feb 2017, 50 Jun 2017. 50 Aug 2017. 47 Feb 2018  Pacemaker fitted 2008 - replaced 2017.

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want 'em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

This has got seriously off-topic since Blueduck's post.  Specially as it's a "sticky", so if no one objects I will split it off into a normal thread starting with Blueduck's post.

Good idea Patti! I’ve done that for you.

FWIW, we had ‘Brodie’s notes’ at school.

Tee hee!! The use of 'bore' in your comment, though perfectly correct, made me chuckle Sedge.
