It’s not always a matter of choice Paul.  My clinic don’t offer the Omnipod.  They were only offering the Animas and the Medtronic when I was due to change.  In the event Animas dropped out of the market, so I was told I could have another of the one I was on.   The Accuchek Combo.  I didn’t want the insight so I chose the devil I knew.

Yes - first time I was offered the Combo, when it was changed I could have had an Insight or a Combo.  I was told I could have anything else on the market but the clinic couldn't help me as much 'as they hadn't been trained by anyone else'.  They hadn't got shedloads of people on pumps to begin with so it was all new to them too.  Well surely that's changed by now - I dunno.

But the ruddy things aren't rocket science - and what would they do if eg Mike or Paul moved to Rugby - with a Medtronic or an Omnipod - refuse to see them?  So I should imagine they must be used to other ones by now, DSNs have changed now anyway.

My warranty is up in May/June next year, we do get offered the omnipod but with my lack of spacial awareness (constantly bumping into stuff!) I don't think it's for me.

I will probably go back to the medtronic

I'd like to meet a Medtronic in the flesh - I know after having the Combo followed by the Insight that I would miss the 'full' remote control - but I don't know what I'd gain with the Medtronic.  If the Combo is still around - I might very well plump for one of them cos I liked it a lot and the only thing that's better about the Insight - for me - is the prefilled cartridges, otherwise yes it does the job but not better than the Combo in fact worse in a lot of ways.

I really liked me Veo Sedge, it was my fist pump though so had nothing to compare it to. The one they offer now is the next model up, the 530? It's essentially the same but in colour.

I never got on with the insight handset, it was too slow, needed too much charging and I ditched it after about a year having had to have 2 replacements. I recently had yet another pump failure so I've had 6 replacement insight pumps in 3 years which is pretty dreadful IMO

Dolly
6 failures is shocking and unacceptable!  My Clinic stopped offering the Insight pretty soon after it came out because of failures and complaints.
Sedge
In the month before I had to make a decision my choice was down to the Medtronic and I was lucky enough to have dinner in Bristol with Mike (Eduadad) and he showed me his pump.  In fact there we both were before dinner in this restaurant waving our pumps in the air and discussing various aspects of them.  Gawd knows what the waiting staff thought we were doing!  The Medtronic was a bit bigger than the Combo, not so easy to conceal and I was rather dismayed at the fact that, although you could actually dose with the meter, it wasn't a true handset.  Having experienced  occasions where I was wearing a dress at a formal do, I felt that fishing a pump out of my clothing wasn't something I could handle, so when the nurse rang up and said "do you want another Combo?" I jumped at it.

Yes patti ... I am aware that not all hospitals offer all pumps... it is normally due to staff training from my experience.......

Dolly --- as for your issues with bumping things i am regularly speaking with other podders on another social media platform ( Instagram )
people are using many sites that might seem a bit ---- OH !! really .............these include tucked up at the bottom of ribcage , upper chest , calf , inner thigh , forearm , back of "love handles" and of course on the inside of the upper arm ( so out of harms way in relation to doorframes etc )
it might be worth a moment if you have an instagram account doing a hashtag search on #omnipodders , #podclub

I have used forearm , upper chest, inner thigh and ribcage sites successfully

just another thought...... omnipod do dummy pods that peeps can wear to see what they feel like.... perhaps ask your DSN for a couple to try in a couple of places and see how you do doing the bump test !!
