It's that kneecap again
« on: 01 October 2018, 09:23:00 PM »
… or rather the pins and wires that were inserted to rebuild the thing - to my delight, as of this afternoon I'm now on the list to get them removed.  No guarantees the knee will ever be brilliant again but it's a start !  Got to wait for the appointment which is supposed to be 'within the next 3 months' - under a GA but only day surgery thank heavens.

Woo hoo... so pleased for you Sedge.  It’s scary how a simple trip can affect the rest of your life.

Bad news is he reckons that the underneath of the patella, because it's no longer a smooth even surface, will already be causing arthritis and that's quite likely why it hurts like hell to try and kneel on it - however he said let's remove the metalwork and see what happens after that, cos it obviously isn't helping.

Hey ho !  Just such a ruddy inconvenience with the amount of 'overhead' lockers in the Moho and the amount of stuff we keep in them - like a fair proportion of our clothes and bread etc since the one over the bed head is big - hence to get to any of them you need to kneel on the bed so a nice mattress, padded mattress cover, bottom sheet and during the daytime the quilt folded in half!  (because it's a 'French' bed so to make it look tidy when we're not in it, when we make it, we fold the Q lengthwise - yes you can get shaped quilts and covers, costing 3 figures, hence we haven't LOL)

Oh dear... sorry, arthritis is a real pig.  Dunno what to say about padding the bed any more since it sounds to be extremely well padded.  Get Pete to do the kneeling?

We are currently employing the latter solution, plus he has to do all the furthest corners of the 'van floor too - and there are quite a lot of them in this one - pesky French designers!

I have to be selectively blind until I can't stand it any more or he can't, LOL

Best wishes for a most successful outcome to your procedure Sedge.  I have had arthritis in my knee for a good number of years.  Do take care of yourself as best you can.  For what it is worth, I bought a 'kneeling pad' for my husband to use when he has jobs around the house that require kneeling.  He says it makes kneeling not quite so painful.  I ordered the kneeling pad from Amazon.

I haven't been able to kneel down since I had my knee replacement operation 17 years ago.  It is a bit of a nuisance especially when I want to do weeding in the garden.  I have learnt to squat but it's not easy but I manage.  Any low cleaning is difficult too.  Getting things out of the storage area beneath our caravan bunks is really difficult especially if they are at the back of the space.  I either have to lift the long cushioned seat with its mattress, duvet, other bedding and throw or get John to kneel down to retrieve the things I want.  More modern caravans have access to this storage space from the outside now.

Good luck with your operation to remove the pins and wires, Sedge.  I hope you don't have to wait too long and that you will be able to kneel afterwards.

I don’t know anything about knees other than that I have them, so I’ll add I hope you get a date through soon and that it helps too.

Yes indeed... and in a strange way the knees help the pancreas.... or rather the pump I suppose.  Did so much walking yesterday that I hardly needed any insulin.  Need our knees to walk eh?

Had my date through today, Tues 18 Dec.  Pre-op next Friday at 11 am.

Has anyone else had a relatively quick op (I presume quick anyway) under GA whilst being on a pump?  They insisted on a sliding scale when I was an inpatient - but I sincerely trust they'll let me leave my pump on this time.

Haven’t had a GA since 1985 and I wasn’t diabetic then, so I can’t help, but I wanted to say Good Luck!  Hope all goes well and your knee will be less painful.

So close to Xmas though... good excuse to put your feet up and have someone else do the cooking 😀
