Times up
« on: 26 October 2018, 03:42:05 PM »
I had a phone call from my hospital clinic to say my pump is coming up to 4 years with the service guarantee ending and what replacement would I like. This was quite difficult to make a quick decision.
I asked what was the choice and I would like a remote hand set, She mentioned a Dana or a patch pump but only a small amount of choice. So what did I do? yes you guessed it! The same again the Insight as I have had very little problems I thought better the devil you know. I hope this is the best decision. The only disadvantage is the choice of insulin as you are limited to Novo Rapid as it works for me it’s not a problem, but maybe it would have been nice to have the ability to try an alternative but life is a compromise.
Now they have to apply for the funding,it is now I wish I had not been so rude about the local CCG and contacted my MP about them, even though that still didn’t get me the Libre on prescription
This makes life complicated as for a pump you need to show a improving hypo level so I had to say <2 a week but when I was trying to get a prescription for the Libre it was the other way round saying >8 soI could show an improvement life is fickle.
I hope my pump funding is approved as it is now my best friend and do not want to return to injection again.

Sending you positive thoughts and hope your funding gets processed quickly.  I would also hate to return to injections.  Good Luck.

Good luck Plumb.  I had a similar choice to make... the Medtronic or another Combo.  I went for the Combo as the Medtronic was slightly larger and didn’t have a complete handset.  OK the Combo is an older model, but as you say, better the devil you know....

Fingers crossed funding will be approved.

Excellent news Plumb.  Hope the new Insight is as reliable as you found it's predecessor  :D

You are deffo not the only one Plumb.  There's a FB Accuchek Combo/insight group and a couple of people on there have been frustrated by the same issue.

On the Insight, you do have to concentrate on it whilst it's rewinding the piston and also when filling the tubing, otherwise you do miss the prompts and then it's frustrating trying to get it back to where you want to be again - hence you can't do much else.  Bit of a time waster since you can't just go for a wee or make a cuppa/whatever at the same time.  It's impossible to multi-task and woe betide a member of your family asking you a question 'while you're just doing that and nowt else'.

Still - I'm horrified that Medtronic have awful hardware supply problems at the minute and can't even tell people when they can expect deliveries.

I'm starting on a Medtronic pump next week too replace my Animas Vibe. The only info I've had yet is a letter from Medtronic saying they are having problems. I haven't even setup an account with them but the NHS must have on my behalf I think for me to have got that letter.

The pump world seems to be shrinking.

I don't know enough about it but the Vibe had a known issue with the battery compartment breaking. I had it happen and the rep said it happened a lot. Maybe replacing all the faulty ones cost so much they weren't making enough from it?
