Post by: ElizaP on 07 July 2013, 09:09:55 AM
Hi, just trying to change my account settings and I've forgotten my password. What should I do?

Thanks

when you click to login, i think there should be a forgotten password option to click there?

Ummm since you are in and able to post I assume your password is fine?

Patti, if you click "stay logged in forever" when you log in, you more or less never have to enter your password again when you come to the site (unless you clear cookies, I imagine). It's the setting I use for my home computer. So you can be logged in, able to post and have only ever entered your password once, months ago - certainly long enough to have forgotten it!

There is a password retrieval service if you log out and try to log back in; on the login page you'll see the standard "forgot your password?" link you can click, you give it your username or email and your password will be sent to the email account you used to register in the first place. I dunno if the admins can intervene for you if that doesn't work?

Well I think the point of this has been slightly missed?

It occurs to me that ElizaP would really prefer to be called Sally ?  In which case if she wishes to change her profile to reflect that - she will need her password?

But there again, it may not actually be possible to actually change your Forum Name - I don't know?

OK I get the point.  Yes, it's possible to change one's member name IIRC.  Of course you will need your password for that.  I will change Eliza's password and email her the new one.

Yup... the admins can intervene to update the password, or other details manually (mwahhahaha!)

It's done and I've emailed the new password to Sally.
